<blockquote><b>Quoting TG3:</b>" I couldn't do it at 40 ... I have plans for my retirement and later life which most other people probably ... [snip!] ... IVF is selfish. I mean seriously could you imagine having to physically take care of your 80 year old mother at the age of 10?"</blockquote>

Exaggeration....much?

Retirement age isn't until the early-mid sixties. Even if a woman had a kid at forty, by the time she was of retirement age, her children would be graduated from college and self-sufficient.

And most fertility specialists won't touch a woman past her mid forties...

I just had my second and I am 41 ( my youngest is now 7 weeks )

I think over 45 would be my cut off if I wanted more but I don't

I say whenever the woman decides they don't want anymore then that is there cut off

and for the woman who say that people over 40 that have kids are selfish , pftttt , that's like me saying anyone under 40 that have children are selfish

I would like to know what would happen to these woman who couldn't conceive easily and turned 40 but you still wanted a child

sure there are chances of something going wrong in pregnancy when you are older but things go wrong all the time with ladies at any age , I had a MC and I was 31

I didn't say that someone in their 40's is nearing retirement age ... but I know there are lots of women going to IVF in their late 50's - mid-70's ...that is retirement age.

my mother does the ultrasounds for a lot of women from the local IVF clinic in the 60's and she thinks its ridiculous. Yeah grandparents HELP ... I personally wouldn't want to make the decision at the age of 17 whether to put my 80 year old mother in a nursing home.

also her situation (to a degree) is different, her husband is 31 so its not like that child is going to not have any parents around.
