There has been a lot going on in my life lately and a lot I have been dealing with for a while. I decided to go to a doctor because I could feel myself getting more and more depressed. I explained to her how I felt and she asked if I thought I would benefit from a medication. I told her, yes. I feel like I do need a medicine and I felt like I could greatly benefit. - Instead of giving me any type of medication she told me to come back in a month and if it had not passed, she would consider prescribing one. - I have been battling with this for three to four years now. It isn't getting any better. I do not understand the point in her bringing up prescription medicine then telling me I had to wait another month before trying anything. I am not in a good state of mind at this point. I feel like I am in a very dark place right now. Waiting a month will not do me any good, if anything - it will only get worse.
I just feel so low. - Should I try another doctor?
Yes, get a second opinion.
I recommend going to talk with a therapist, hopefully one that has a psychiatrist in office.
Try another doctor, seek counseling, try to find some type of outlet for your emotions. Also this may sound crazy, but a diet change can help with depression as well. I was dealing with depression, but didn't want to take medication. I changed my diet, and I haven't had any problems since. Good luck, hope you get feeling better.
If you feel like you're in a very dark place right now, I would definitely get a second opinion. If this is a regular dr, you need to see a therapist/counselor. They are the ones who can accurately diagnose depression and how severe it is. Also, at my counselor's office they have a 24/7 hotline I can call at any time and if I ever felt like I was going to harm myself, they would get me the help I needed. Ideally, hospitalization isn't the best but if you truly feel you need to be medicated and the dr won't do anything and you're afraid of harming yourself, I would get the help immediately. <3 Hugs. Hang in there. I know how frustrating it can be and lonely it is when you're depressed. You can PM me if you need to talk.
Quoting melindapple:" Try another doctor, seek counseling, try to find some type of outlet for your emotions. Also this may ... [snip!] ... want to take medication. I changed my diet, and I haven't had any problems since. Good luck, hope you get feeling better. "
What kind of diet do you do?
Get a second opinion, or at the very least call back and ask her to refer you to a therapist or psychologist.
