I have a question, I am set at eating 1200 calories a day. I am also walking for an hour and then doing jumping jacls mountain climbersm lunges, squats. So I log everything I eat and do religously. It adds more calories that im able to take in. but isnt the point not to take those in? I always end up with 350+ calories after the 1200. Kind of confused. My goal is to lose 40-50 lbs

You should probably be eating more that 1200 calories a day. more upwards to 1550 a day.

I'm not sure either. I have searched on there and I can only find that you should eat them back or at least half. I think it makes sense that you do because if you burn 1200 calories then wouldn't your body think you're starving and then you'd lose weight slower? Anyway, I JUST started following the 1200 calories a day and I've lost 2 pounds in 6 days and I log religiously. I love that site :] Good luck

IME, for every calorie you burn, MFP adds that back to what you can have for that day.

Thanks! I dont have a scale, as we are broke as f**k right now. But I dont burn 1200 a day, I eat that a day. I burn roughly 350 some odd calories. I want to weigh myself so bad, but idk anyone here to even borrow a scale.

Oh no I got that, I was just saying as an example that your body would try to hold on to calories because of being at too large of a deficit, you know? At least that's what I gather from the googling and myfitnesspal lurking I have done.

I'm a little late, but I was confused by this as well till my husband explained it. Mfp already takes 1000 calories out so you still lose weight without any exercise. You don't want to pay attention to the food diary/calories. The home page it says how much calories you have eaten-exercise calories lost= net. The net is actually how much calories you have in your body. So let's say you have eaten 1200 calories but lost 300 in exercise. You have only 900 calories in your body that you have "eaten". You need to eat back more to stay at the 1200 or your body will store calories.

Same. I feel like a pig for what I think is "eating too much" so I hardly ever hit 1200 calories a day which isn't always the best. I'm trying to eat 1200 a day but I end up feeling overly full. But I definitely don't want my body to start storing calories/fat so I have to make myself lol.

I do too. And then there are days where i will go over and slightly panic. Lol. SO is always nagging to make sure i eat enough. I dont always add in my drink calories though. I usually only drink water or tea. I always add milk to it though.

I've been reading some mixed reviews on eating 1200 calories a day. Some fitness instructors say 1200 is not enough at all for your body and is essentially starving yourself. So I'm thinking 1500 is more realistic and better for my body. Its just a matter of trying to get 1500 calories into me with the exercising I do. Lol.
