Refusing Paternity Test... Aliana 1 child; California 391 posts

So as my sons first birthday approaches, i finally got the courage to message his potential father that no one knows about regaurding a paternity test. He told me he couldnt be the father because he claims hes sterile... but I'm not convinced. So i messaged my ex who is not involved but his family is (his family has no idea about the other guy)
He just gave me a bunch of crap and refuses to do one as well because he doesn't want me doing anything with his family.

What do i do now??

Start a child support case and they will ask you about potential fathers, you name them both and CSE will order a paternity test on both guys.

Just go to your local CSO. They'll track them down and order a paternity test through the courts and everything for you.

Does it force them to comply? What happens if they don't

Yes, it's court ordered. If they don't comply they go to jail.

Yes it forces them to comply. If they don't they get in big trouble. Once they get served papers to go, I am surprised they wouldn't go just to "prove" they aren't.

Who is on the birth certificate?

The welfare office doesn't handle child support in Cali. The child support office does. The welfare office doesn't get involved unless someone applies for and is eligible to the CalWORKS program. And even then they still refer it to the local child support agency.

Op go to the local child support office. They.can help you get a court order.

If you can't find it, try googling "Office of Child Support Enforcement" in your city.

What everyone said. File for child support. Since they're not on the birth certificate they'll be ordered to take a paternity test. They don't have the option of turning it down.
