We only have a 2 bedroom house, so the new baby will be in our room for quite awhile, at least til he/she sleeps through the night. Since I don't know when that will be i'm wondering if I should just get a mini crib? What age do you think a bassinet with hold up to vs. a mini crib??? our room is small so we cant fit the big crib in there.
I have a one bedroom apt. I stsrted out with her in the bassinet and now she's in a playpen. Honestly we have a full-size crib bust she never sleeps in it. Lol
Bassinets will work for a few months, at least. I think I stopped putting DS in his when he was about 4 months old because I was worried he'd learn to roll over or sit up and fall out.
Or you could cosleep. That would take up zero extra room. ;)
Bassinets usually have a weight limit of 15lbs. When they'll reach that weight just depends on the baby. My son was 15lbs in like two months. My daughter was like 5 months before hit the weight limit. I liked the bassinet anyway in the early months because it was easier.
I'm not sure of the weight limit for a mini-crib, but if it's more it might be worth it to just get that if the baby will be in your room for a while.
With my first I had a bassinet for him in our room, but he was in his own room/crib by 3 weeks....thankfully it was borrowed to us or it would have been a waste of money.
This time I got her a mini play pen (pack and play). I love it! Im so happy with it, its about 1/3 smaller than the normal pack and plays so its not crowding our room and then I can use it down stairs when she gets in her own room. Plus, we have a lot of trips coming up, it will be very easy to travel with
I have a pack and play with a bassinet in it,I love it! I know the baby can stay in the bassinet part until they can climb out of it so at least six months? After that you just put them in the pack and play bottom part
Thanks for the suggestions! I think im leaning towards the mini crib, since I want the baby to sleep in a bigger crib at some point, the mini may be the way to go. I like the pack and play idea for traveling but not for every day use. The bassinets are cuter lol but if I have a big baby I guess I may be out of some money and have to get something bigger anyway. Now to find a good, non expensive mini crib!
With DD I used a bassinet then crib but found it pointless, the bassinet doesn't hold very much weight so this time we got a pack n play that has a bassinet on top that can be removed for the first few months. Makes more sense since you can continue using the pack n play for years.
We use a pack and play. I went to Walmart and got memory foam mattress for it to put in the bottom with his matters pad and fitted sheet to make it more comfortable for him. He loves it.
I used a pack n play with my second that had the infant adjustment. I started putting her in her own crib at about 6 months.
With my first I had the pack n play set up but we ended up co-sleeping almost 100% of the time until she was about 1
I feel like buying a bassinet and a mini crib will be such a waist of money.
At least with a pack n play you can use it into toddlerhood and after you get a normal size crib you can still use the pack n play.
Quoting October2011:" We only have a 2 bedroom house, so the new baby will be in our room for quite awhile, at least til he/she ... [snip!] ... What age do you think a bassinet with hold up to vs. a mini crib??? our room is small so we cant fit the big crib in there."
i wouldnt even get a bassinette knowing what i know now. my son grew out of the bassi already and hes only 4 months they get dangerous once they get close to the weight requirement. id say get a pack and play.
