DS will be 1 in a month. He will also easily meet the 20 pound forward facing criteria, but we don't really want to turn him around until he's much bigger. We've been through to much with him and his health to risk losing him because he's forward facing to early. We're having issues with getting a car seat though. We had originally planned to get the Nautilus until I noticed in the fine print that it's strictly forward facing. Now we're looking at the My Ride 65 LX.

We're wondering how long you kept your LO's in one? 65 pounds and 50 inches seems like a pretty big kid to us. Would we be able to skip boosters entirely and just keep him in the My Ride until he's big enough to use a seat belt? How old is a child typically when they reach the maximum for the My Ride? Or is there a different rear facing convertible seat that also transitions into boosters that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Thanks in advance!

Just as an FYI, not sure if you know, but it's RF up to 40 lbs and FF up to 65.
Depending on the expiration date, you could probably keep your LO in it until it's time to just use a seat belt.
My son is in a Nautilus. He's 6 and 55 lbs. Here, he needs to be in at least a booster until 8 years old so odds are he'll be in his Nautilus until he's 8.
A 5 point harness car seat is safer (if your child fits withincthe heught and weight limits) than a booster, so the My Ride would probably be nice to have instead of switching to a booster after a certain weight.

That's pretty much what we were thinking too. We want him rear facing as long as we can make it happen and then we want him in a 5 point harness as long as he can fit. It would be great if we could just keep using it until he's big enough for the seat belt because we are pretty tight financially and will have trouble affording a new seat every few years. Ideally we will keep him in the My Ride until he's reached the limits and then switch him to just a seat belt.

How much did that cost? That would be great if we could just get an all-in-one that we can just use until he doesn't need a seat/booster anymore.

Same here (financially tight), so I'm definitely hoping DS will be in the Nautilus until he's 8, lol.

Oh dang... that's a whole bunch. Maybe we could swing it somehow. It would be great to have because we'd never have to buy another one unless we had a car accident.

Both of my girls have the MR65. They are 4 and 2. The 4 y/o is FF and the 2 y/o is about to have to switch bc of her height. We love love love the seat, esp the fact that their heads don't flop all over the place if they fall asleep the way they do with the spare carseats. The Diano is awesome too but keep in mind it will probably expire before you can do away with carseats all together

How would it expire? The website says they are good for 10 years? I have no intention of having my son in a car seat/booster until he's 11 years old (unless he is to little for a seat belt of course).

The website says that the Diono is good for 10 years. I can't see DS needing to still be in a booster at 11 years old. I don't know that we will be able to afford one either way, so there's a good chance that we will be getting the MR65.

I thought most carseats expired after about 6 years so I just assumed the Diono was the same. **Shrugs** Either way they are both great seats. I like that the MR65 leans back a little so if DD falls asleep her head doesn't end up on her chest

That is definitely something that would be good for DS. He's always falling asleep in the car if he's in there more then 10-15 minutes. I think we will probably just be going with the My Ride 65. I was just checking booster prices just in case we end up needing one and they're not nearly as expensive as I thought they were. Thank you!
