I went into preterm labor at 25 weeks and they gave me magnesium sulfate. Well they gave me way too much! I was overdosing on it, my question is. Is if i go into preterm labor again, can i refuse magnesium sulfate?

Are you stupid? WTF would you want a baby that early when it can be stopped?

Legally you can, but you'd be an idiot to do it. Risking your babies life :-/

yeah if you want a baby born with a less than a 50% chance of survival and an 85% chance of permanent disability.

You are not bright. If your Mg levels get too high they shut it off so you can't overdose. That's why they chek them every 6 hours

I don't think you people responding need to be so harsh to her. I would not advise refusing meds if it will help your baby's survival. Maybe explain your concerns to the dr, but don't refuse what they know can help the baby.

How do you know you overdosed? You were monitered very carefully

Mag Sulfate can make you feel like shit, so I hear. How do you know that you weren't having a totally normal reaction to it?

Did the doctors say you overdosed? And if you need it again, just tell them about your reaction

This.

Refusing meds that can keep your baby in and alive is just plain stupid, OP. Sorry, but it's true.

Okay well im 29 weeks now and no im not stupid but look it up, magnesium sulfate can even harm the baby given at high levels which i was at the highest level and my hospital has no idea what they were doing so i wasnt monitored every 6 hours it was more like every 12. I knew they were giving me way too much because i went into preterm labor with my first son and the gave me mag. They also gave me the steriod shots and everything. I wasnt saying was going to refuse the magnesium i was just asking if icould. Theyre are other medications that stop labor.

I take it back, 29 weeks is the ideal time to have a baby. Push em out, shove em out, way out!

There's no reason adult women need to go so far as to name call. She was asking for advice, not to be ganged up on.
