Quoting Jas ♥:" Uhh that sounds really normal. How else are they going to know if the child knows the information? They have to be tested on it."

Testing makes sense to an extent but weekly? For a 5 year old? IDK I did not have tests in kindergarten lol, not formal ones. The teacher might quiz us verbally on things but these are serious written tests.

Are they using Abeka for their curriculum? Its a popular christian school program...I've heard that it's a lot of work. I know some homeschoolers who use their homeschool program -- god speed! lol.

I will ask the teacher. I'm happy they are learning the bible though. I like prayer and all but I think it is important for them to actually learn what it says as well rather than a teacher's opinion of "hey God is good." (though that's also good and nice.) In the pre-k program there was far less structure with the religious part of it. Just a morning prayer, some lessons from the bible and that was it.

Abeka is a good solid program academically, not just religious stuff. It is more than what we want for Kindergarten in our home, but it's rock solid. I hope she enjoys her kinder year!

Thanks for the info. We chose the school for the academics, I hope it pays off. The Christian aspect is nice of course too.

Normal. My daughter had a weekly homework sheet along with books to read and tests every Friday for spelling and sounding out and writing...
