Emmett woke up around 3 am. I think he knew something was going on. Surgery wasn't until 9am so I was nervous about him being really crabby because he was going to be hungry. But he didn't! Here is a picture before we headed out to the hospital

We got to the hospital and got all checked in, they had him get into the pajamas which he didn't like at all but one of him in them. Didn't seem to be too worried even though I was terrified!j

They had him paint the inside of the anesthesia mask with a scented chapstick of his choice so that he was just smelling the mask when he went to sleep. Also they had pictures of all these power wheels cars that they had that he could drive to the OR, they had a hummer, a barbie jeep, a barbie car, and a black jeep... Emmett chose the barbie jeep haha. We went down to the OR and they had him sit up on the edge of the table and had me hold his hands, they placed the mask over his face and we told him to smell the mask! He started coughing and then his eyes started rolling in back of his head and he went limp and fell over (they helped him lay down easy) and then I was escorted out of the room. About an hour later I was called to talk to the DR where he told me everything went PERFECTLY! I was so excited. A few minutes later I was able to go see him in the recovery room where he was still asleep.. He started to wake up and cry so I held him.

He woke up a little and didn't like the wash cloth they used to cover his IV (he's never liked ANYTHING on his hands, never could even swaddle him when he was a baby), so in trying to rip off the wash cloth he almost ripped the IV all the way out, but there was a tiny bit left in and they were able to feed it back into his hand thankfully, once that washcloth was off he was okay. I put him back on the gurney.

My poor baby everytime the blood pressure cuff went he would cry.. and they were bloody tears ]:

After about 5 hours he was fully awake, drank some ginger ale and we were able to go home. When we first got home he was miserable.

But somehow he was able to smile through it.

Icecream made it a little better.

Thank you! lol I know it made it a lot easier for him I think because he got to drive it to the operating room so he wasn't nervous going in or anything!

Aww I'm happy it all went great. My son had this same exact surgery April 11th of this year. Reading and seeing this is exactly what I went through with my son. I was terrified about the surgery, well more so the anesthesia than the actual surgery but I am so glad we went through with it and it wasnt as horrible as I imagined it to be.

My son has exotropia in his eyes and we have yo go for surgery on September 19th... I'm so nervous. Connors right eye isn't very bad but his left eye drifts quite frequently.
