Commuting for work: will my car withstand the miles? liz1 Spain 42 posts10th Sep
i have a 99 honda with about 165000 miles on it. i work 3 weekends a month out of town about a 3 hour commute there and then 3 hours home so 6 hours worth of driving 3 weekends per month. Any tips on how to keep my car in tact? Should it survive this for a couple of years (while I am in school) if repairs are done that need to be done and regular maintnance?

with regular maintenance the engine itself would probably hold up to 400,000 miles, but other parts on the car can go out...expensive parts. I don't see why it wouldn't last you through at least a few years though.

is it worth the gas cost and mantinenance to be commuting that far is the question you need to ask yourself? I agree that the car itself should last, but you'll likely be replacing parts along the way. If you have a mechanic in your family to do it for free it wouldn't be too spendy, but if you have to take it to a shop it'll cost a fortune.
