As horrible as it is, you could show him one of the many videos that they strap the baby down and use nothing but (sometimes_ a local. or sugar water.

When they gave DD a spinal at 8 weeks old, they only gave her sugar water. I wanted to take her away from them.

I could not watch something like that. The pictures are bad enough. I could probably handle it not pregnant, but I've been more emotional this time around. Stupid hormones. :x

You don't have to watch them circumcise your baby. My kids were NOT held down. They were given a small numbing shot before the procedure and did not cry at all.

However it's done it's still wrong to me. It's not just the procedure but the fact that your taking something off that has a purpose. Not all hospitals do the same procedure there is the ring they use and cutting. Some use numbing cream some don't. There are different ways .... But you know that already.

I found out YESTERDAY that I'm having a boy, and it is a new subject for me. Both of which I stated in the OP. Most of what I know is from other people, some of whom I know are going off of outdated or incorrect information. I came here looking for legit, up to date information to talk to my husband about it, since he is one of the ones going off of outdated information. Based on what I was given yesterday, it wasn't looking good for me wanting to get it done. However, I know I have barely touched the tip of the iceberg with this topic. I have a job, a family, and a life. I can't spend 10 hours a day researching a topic when we don't have to make a decision on it for months. If you feel I have been given such horrible information (either here or elsewhere), then show me something you believe to be more accurate.

[snip!] ... you'd tone down the biased crazy and actually present facts without throwing your incorrect opinion and beliefs in the matter."</blockquote>

my research on the subject was a lot more than the 1 video i saw in youtube. it's that is needed and serves a purpose and that it's not my body. I may have posted a link froma bias site but it was to show what the purpose was of a foreskin. I dot think I'm being all "crazy" I'm not anti circ I'm anti RIC

Anytime someone posts about circing you will get both sides. I posted facts and told her my personal experience.that is all.

Some of them don't. It can depend on the hospital or person doing it. I saw many circs done and I can probably count on one hand how many of them got a ring block or emla cream.

The Whole Network on Facebook has a wealth of information for you. Both of my boys are intact and the only 'issue' we've ever had was ignorant doctors not knowing what they are doing and trying to forcibly retract them. Also, I don't give a crap what anybody says, if someone is cutting flesh off your genitals, it's gonna hurt. That's just common sense. Oh and that "numbing shot" that people are talking about is called a dorsal penile nerve block. Never mind the fact that shoving a needle in his penis is gonna f'ing hurt but also, this shot doesn't fully numb the penis. Also, to the ladies who said their baby didn't cry. I'm glad that your baby saved that stress from you, however, studies have proven that the baby not crying during circumcision tends to be a coping mechanism to the pain. http://www.sickkids.ca/aboutsickkids/newsroom/past-news/1997/study-shows-that-infants-feel-and-remember-circumcision-pain.html

I've got quite a bit more info on it should you need it.

Thank you. :) I'll make sure to talk to my OB and DD's pediatrician the next time I see them.

You're welcome. I'm actually kinda glad that I didn't ask my OB or my pedi. Reason being is that it's been my experience that the vast amount of doctors in this area are unfamiliar with an intact penis as well as it's care. Pretty sad actually, but like I said, The Whole Network is awesome when it's comes to information and links to studies.

DH had such a botch Circ done when he was born that now his penis you can tell half of it had the skin removed and it's so botchy. It's never really bothered him, but it's not great to look at.

I had absolutely no legit information (websites, videos, etc) to post. I said what I had to say from personal experience. At the hospital where my son was born, there was NO numbing of the area in order to do the procedure. I was told that by both the nurses and the doctor. Just Tylenol. Before I found that out I was a-okay with the circumcision. I am not biased in any way, it's not my child. Circumcise all you want.
Again, I was speaking from personal experience.
