Has anybody ever needed to have surgery while pregnant? Not a c-section, but some type of surgery during any point of pregnancy, specifically that required general anesthesia. If so, would you mind telling me about the experience? What type of surgery, how far along, any after effects, etc.
Hopefully I'm worrying for nothing, but I have recurrent osteomyelitis (bone infection). I've had 4 surgeries for it in the past 2 years but it keeps coming back. My first symptoms are always cyclic fever and leg pain, which I just started having again Monday. If I run fever again tonight, I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow. I'm just not sure what they would do about it with me being pregnant. Like if they could treat me non-surgically with antibiotics until delivery and then do surgery. The infection has been life threatening before, so it's not something to put off. The surgery is super intense though. I was in the operating room under GA for over 4 hours for each surgery.
I'm 13 weeks 4 days right now, so I've got a long ways to go.
Quoting Klaus:" Has anybody ever needed to have surgery while pregnant? Not a c-section, but some type of surgery during ... [snip!] ... the operating room under GA for over 4 hours for each surgery. I'm 13 weeks 4 days right now, so I've got a long ways to go."
She had her gallbladder out while pregnant.
I've been told that second tri surgery can be fairly safe. I've only had one surgery, needed to save my life which was in immediate danger and I was 4 weeks pregnant. We didn't know but even if we had I couldn't have made a different choice. We ended up loosing that baby two weeks later. I was told it isn't uncommon when surgery is done in the first tri
I had my wisdom teeth out the day I was suppose to get my period and it never came. Found out I was pregnant two weeks later. I was probably 4 weeks pregnant when I had them out. No after affects. Even took pain meds for having them out..
I too had wisdom teeth out around the time I got pregnant. They gave me the iv anesthesia and then a bunch of percocet too for afterwards, and did all this before I could've possibly known. He was fine though except for the 2 vessel cord. Not sure if the surgery or drugs had anything to do with that but I'm guessing it's definitely possible.
