Spelling/thoughts/ somewhat a vent αftergℓow TTC since Sep 2011; Cleveland, 8 posts19th Sep
I told my soon to be MIL the middle name my SO picked out if we ever have a daughter. We've had the names picked out for years (Landon Asher for a boy and the first name Ava for a girl). She knows we've been TTC and couldn't be more excited and supportive and she knows we have names picked out and I wouldn't tell her for the longest time and since she has been so supportive and once again she asked I finally told her. When I told her the middle name for Ava (over Facebook) I spelled it Elise (uh-lease) and she called me and said she didn't like it because it looked more like Ellis and said people wouldn't know the difference and that Ellis was ugly. I know its not her choice and this may be a little mean but is she just being dumb? It really hurt my feelings. I just said I don't know and made an excuse and got off the phone and logged out of Facebook. Was she right about the spelling though? I need some advice on what I should do about MIL like what should I say to her and just advice in general in this situation. Thanks.

I know a girl with hers spelled Elyse except it is said E-Lease. I think she should respect your decision

Elise is the proper spelling. If she brings it up to you again, I would just make her aware of that and tell her that you and your DH like it and that's all that matters.

I feel better. I get so frustrated with her sometimes. It took all I had in me not to say something mean to her when she said that. She's not very bright so I guess I have to consider the source. I showed her the cutest "mixed" baby (half black / white) one time and said the word biracial and she was like whats biracial? I told her but in my head I was like oh my gosh. And to top it all off she said she doesnt want to be an organ donor because she thought they take your organs right then and there, like while you're alive. There's alot of moments like those. Thanks for making me feel better ladies. :)

Elise is gorgeous. Every time I hear that name, I think of Beethoven's composition, "Fur Elise". All in all, beautiful. If anyone thinks its said otherwise, correct them. Plus, if you guys are deciding to call her by her first name and not her middle, your MIL's reasoning is irrelevant.
