My bridesmaids paid for theirs. One didn't have the money for $75 for the dress. I wanted her in my wedding so I paid for hers.

They paid, but I just told them a color and they got what they wanted.

Quite honestly I think its a little tacky, especially if they have no say in the dress. I've never been a bridesmaid and had to pay for my dress unless I picked it out according to the color the bride wanted.

thats what i plan on doing is just given them a color and letting them pick out what they like as long as its the color

i've only been in my sister's wedding's and with her first one my mom paid for all the dresses for the bridesmaid gifts, her 2nd wedding everyone paid for their own but that was because it was a plain black skirt and a nice cream shirt (the shirt was the most expensive part which was like $60). If my DH and I had a big wedding then I would never expect my bridesmaids to pay over $100 to wear a dress that they will only wear once to MY wedding
