Can you request an ultrasound? Soon to be FTM :) Due May 31 (boy); Indianapolis, Indiana 128 posts

I will be 13 weeks along at my next appointment next Wednesday, and they're only just now checking for the heartbeat. I won't get my first ultrasound until late December. Can I request for one at my next appointment? It seems so far away. My friend is pregnant too, as far along as I am, and she's already gotten her first ultrasound.

You can pay for your own ultrasound.

You should have been offered a 12 week dating scan by now. They don't listen to the heartbeat until 16 weeks where I'm from.

It wouldn't hurt to ask or you could pay extra for one. I'm 13 weeks and I've had two... I would not be able to go that long with out one!

I know the feeling! I am 18 weeks and have yet to have an ultra sound. Heard the heartbeat at 10 weeks. . We have an appt. tomorrow for my 18 week check up and will schedule my ultrasound then. Dr said it will probably be at 20 weeks. Luckily, im a patient person lol

Yeah at my next appt I'll be 13 weeks and we get to hear the heart beat, then 4 weeks later she said the first ultrasound. So I'm almost 13 weeks and haven't even gotten it confirmed yet (I know I am but I'd still like to hear it from the dr.) it's just very frustrating not even knowing that everything's the way it should be. If I have Medicaid or insurance will it cover a requested ultrasound?

For Medicaid I believe it has to be medically necessary. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No insurance (government subsidized or otherwise) will pay for an ultrasound that is not medically required....which is why I suggested that you can pay for one yourself.

I asked my doctor for a piece of mind ultrasound and I even offered to pay for it..she told me no I bitched and whined until she said ok come to my main office and I have a tiny ultrasound machine I can use the reason I wanted one is because I had been spotting and the er didn't do a ultrasound of my baby they just checked my cervix and monitored me for 2 almost 3 hours

I'm on Medicade and only get 2 ultrasounds. Even if I had insurence I paid for I only get 2 of them, if something is wrong I get more. I did get to hear my babies heartbeat at 14 weeks and my gender scan is tomorrow at 18w 1d. We are doing the 3d/4d later which we do pay for. My doctor doesn't like to rush on ultrasounds and heartbeats because if he can't find anything due to dates being off he doesn't want to put that stress on the women.

I had my first ultrasound at 5 weeks and they listened to the heartbeat. it was 154. I go back tomorrow for my 10 week check up. You can always ask for an ultrasound! if not then maybe pay out of pocket for it. Good luck! Im guessing every doctor is different

I think if they don't give me one next time, I'll go to an alternative place. There's a place by me that does it for about 100 and that's all they specialize it. I'm just being impatient lol.
