Why would you give him water? Formula and breast milk only and are all that he needs.

Are you breastfeeding? Maybe its just something you ate. If you are really concerned, I would call your doctor. But sometimes urine just smells. I personally wouldn't give my newborn water.

Yah don't listen to the grandparents. He'll get what he needs with his formula. ;)

When Xander was a newborn I was told that straight water could give him seizures.

Anyways, he had the same problem a couple of times but it was nothing to worry about, I breastfed him and his poop and pee would smell like mine, and all depended on what I ate.

Maybe it is just a change from the breast milk to the formula. Its been awhile so I can't remember off the top of my head, but your doctor can advise you how often and how much to feed him if you are concerned that he isn't drinking enough. But if he is feeding well and seems otherwise happy, its probably ok.

DO NOT GIVE HIM WATER.

Water lowers their sodium levels and can cause all sorts of problems.

I wouldn't give him anything besides his formula until doctor calls back. Has he been drinking his formula well today?

Well then doc said if he gets a fever during the night to go to the ER if not to take him in to the doc office for his urine to be tested to see if he has a urine tract infection.. So hopefully its nothing bad..

Really?

No, your mistaken.

They can use urine from the diaper or blood work to see if there is an infection.

Dont give him anything but formula till you physically take him to a hospital if there is a fever or to see his doctor. Pedialyte isn't good stuff, it is no better than Gatorade. I tell my patients to count how many pee filled diapers they have, if it is more than 3-4, he isn't dehydrated.

Or one of those urine collection bags with the sticky opening.
