My 5 year old daughter came down with the stomach virus last night.  She gave me a kiss on the lips yesterday afternoon so I'm highly worried about coming down with it. I'm so scared to ge t dehydrated and something happening to baby. I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow. She is in her room and I've been cleaning with a bleach/water mixture.  Advice/suggestions?

Norovirus is highly contagious. I'm talking about particles in the air, fabric, toys contagious.. I believe you only have to be exposed to a very very small amount of it to get sick..  So if she has a norovirus. I would say whether you kissed her or not if you are going to get sick than you are going to get sick.  Hopefully if you get sick it won't last long. Try to stay hydrated (even before you have symptoms because if you start your sickness very hydrated it will be less likely to dehydrate you) and don't worry too much...

My husband and I both got this on Christmas Eve. I ended up in the hospital with it because I hadn't kept anything down even with nausea meds. Had to have 5 bags of fluids because of dehydration.
From what I've heard, there's little you can do to not catch it. And you can remain contagious longer than most other viruses.

My advice is call your OB and ask for zofran or phenergan now to hopefully keep you from getting as sick (there's no point in throwing up except to spread the virus to other hosts and make you miserable). Otherwise bleaching and praying is all you can do. Bright note baby is in a bubble and even with dehydration risk shouldn't be affected, bad note your daughter is super contagious for minimum 48 hours and will be shedding the virus in stool for 2 weeks (importance of closing toilet seat reminder) and the other poster is right you can catch it from particles in the air as well and it takes very few particles to cause illness. Hope it passes quickly.

@-@Getting my fluids in today. Already have zofran on hand. Should stock up on Gatorade though. *sigh* DD seems like she has a mild case so I'm hoping DH and I will get an even milder case. *fingers crossed*

Norovirus as others have said is very contagious. My sister (who was 6 months pregnant) and her husband got it from a restaurant in 2010 and gave it to our entire family within hours. I was also 6 months pregnant and was deathly ill for about a week. I had to go to emergency to get an IV because I couldn't keep liquid down but they monitored baby and she was fine.

Definitely don't want to end up in the hospital with dehydration.  @-@

I feel for you, I really do. My son and I have had Norovirus twice recently. Once in November and then again right before New Years. It was awful. I was 34-35 weeks pregnant this last time. My son had it worse than me but I also drugged myself up on anti nausea meds to keep from puking so much.(I am terrified of puking constantly) We almost had to take my son to the ER for dehydration because he couldn't keep anything down at all. I hope you don't get sick! But yeah like everyone else said...it is highly contagious and doesn't require a lot of particles to get you sick long before you start showing signs. If you could have, I would say drink 3 glasses of Welch's grape juice every day till the virus is out of the house. It is supposed to(and has worked effectively in the past when done right away) to keep a person from getting sick bc it changes the PH balance in your intestines and the virus is unable to attack you. But you usually have to start drinking it AS SOON AS someone gets sick. Other than that, make sure you wash your hands regularly, use hand sanitizer, bleach and lysol the house and everything your daughter touches constantly. Hope you guys feel better real soon. It sucks.

I managed to catch norovirus in early pregnancy this time, after trying desperately to not catch it from my kids or husband. I bleached everything often, washed my hands until they were raw and tried to avoid handling the mess as much as possible. It didn't help. The bad news is that it sucked. The good news is that the baby was/is fine. Apparently, as long as you stay hydrated, noro won't effect your baby. Hope you do manage to avoid it, but if you don't, at least you know that your baby will be fine as long as you look after yourself.

I'm hoping that it's a pretty mild strain. She's been sick 3 times since like 3am. She's been able to drink Pedialite and keep a small thing of applesauce down. I hate feeling so helpless!  She cries every time she throws up and it breaks my heart!

So were you able to escape the evilness of norovirus? Hope so!
