Abortion rate is down! kjxfiueridhf23irht924 none of your business, CA, United States 1507 posts

GOOD NEWS! The abortion rate has decreased to the LOWEST rate since it became legal!

"The U.S. abortion rate declined to its lowest level since 1973"

We need to keep the pro-life momentum up:
"...there were about 1.06 million abortions in 2011 - down from about 1.2 million in 2008."

While the pro-choice Guttmacher institute attributes the drop to contraceptives, the CDC attributes much of the trend to pro-life legislation.

No matter pro-life or pro-choice I think we can all agree this is a good thing. Abortion rate in this country has always been way to high.

I do agree it is a good thing. Hopefully the numbers are down due to smarter choices and use of contraceptives and not shame.

It's not because of successful anti-choice propaganda....it's because of easier access to birth control, better sexual health education, and less stigma around both.

Where does it say that the CDC says that "pro-life" legistlation is what is causing the drop?

I'm glad it's going down

but not for the reasons listed in that second article.

Closing abortion providers and instituing those regulations HURTS women

I guess I should of read more. The second link is awful. That isn't the way to lower abortion rates. I just hope we don't see an uprising in dumpster babies or back alley abortions.

Yeah that's what I'd like to know, too.

it's not because people are choosing to be pro-life, it's because more people are starting to use long term reversible birth controls and are postponing starting families because of the economy.  I'm happy though that there are less women having to choose that option but I'm so glad that it is still an option.

pro life legislation is not a good thing, just saying. itd have dropped regardless, but forcing women to stop having abortions is just sad.

It is not stoping women from having an abortion. It is holding abortion clinics accountable for providing better health treatment and facilities. The abortion industry is one of the most unregulated industries in this country. Pro-life legislation is finally making them step up to the level of basic health care other medical services have been meeting for years.

I might be against abortion but I think in 2014 a women deserves a clean facility with sterol tools and doctors and nurses who have been properly trained.

Except that studies actually show that an increase in BC actually makes the abortion rate go up. Over half of women who have had an abortion where on a form of birth control when they got pregnant. We have put to much stock in BC as a fail safe and it in return is failing us.

It definitely is not introduced hold abortion clinics accountable for anything except bullying, shaming, and fear mongering it's potential patients.

Abortion as it is performed in this country currently hurts women!

I'd like sources for this as well.
