Does this sound like labor? BRowell 3 kids; 2 angel babies; Bristol, TN, United States 3726 posts

Well, lets start with last Tuesday, I went to a regular ob check and I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. Wednesday I lost a little bit of my mucus plug. Then yesterday afternoon I lost quiet a lot of my mucus plug. I also went to the bathroom three times yesterday with loose stools which is unusual for me. Then around 9pm I decided I had to clean my house so I cleaned the whole house, did the laundry. I washed all the baby clothes and folded and organized, got the nursery completely ready. Then I layed down to go to sleep and I started having contractions. They would start as a tightening in my stomach (no pain) then wrap around to my back where they were mildly uncomfortable. I had several. They were all over the place as far as timing goes and slightly hard to time but then they just stopped. I was restless all night, around 4:30 am I had to go to the bathroom and I was having pains that seemed like contractions but they didn't wrap around to my back at all and it wasn't like a cramp, it was just this pain in my stomach that would come and go.  I also had heartburn all night long. This morning I got up with DD at 6am and felt fine but now at 11am I have a dull low back ache that's just constant. Does this sound like labor to you? I'm not having any unbearable pain. The backache is just annoying really. I have a regular ob check tomorrow. Should I call before then or what? What needs to happen for me to call? I'm 36 weeks 4 days today and they told me if I make it to my next appointment (tomorrow) then they won't stop labor and I want to labor at home as long as possible. What do you ladies think? TIA!

I've been having back pain and contractions since Friday, and nothing has happened yet. Could mean labor is near than it could mean nothing at all. If your pain gets worse and where no matter what you do it doesn't get any better than your probably in labor. I lost part of my mucous plug weeks ago that doesn't really indicate anything either. Good luck.

Definitely sounds like it's starting! If it were me I'd probably call just to give them a heads up.  See what they say. Have you gotten your Group B Strep test done? If that's negative you are probably good to go and can wait til you are ready to go to the hospital, if you go now they probably would just send you home anyway..I think they want the contractions to be like 5 mins apart for you to stay. Unless you are further progressed. HOWEVER..you are kind of early still so I wouldn't take too many chances, baby may need immediate attention. Good luck!

That's what I was thinking, I know none of these things are definitely signs it's happening now. This will be the first time I've went into labor on my own so I'm not sure about it. Thank you! Good luck to you too! :)

Sounds like labour to me.

Within 5 days of losing my mucus plug (I lost it over 3 days), my water broke and I was in labour.

I have had the group B test and it was negative. They told me if I make it to tomorrow then I can labor at home until contractions are two minutes apart but I only live like 5 minutes or less from my hospital. That's what I'm struggling with, I don't want to go for nothing and just be sent home especially since that will mean me getting a baby sitter which will be either DH or MIL and both would have to leave work and I know nothing definite is happening and I have an appointment already set for tomorrow but I'm not even 37 weeks yet so... Like you said, still early. I think I'll call them and just see what they say. Thank you!

It sounds like your body is just getting ready, but I wouldn't say its labor. You did a lot yesterday, so you might have just overdone it.
