todays my brithday and instead of drinking alchohol i made my fiance buy me a 8.3 FL OZ can of redbull (big partier over here :P), haha. i was totally addicted to energy drinks before i got pregnant, so drinking this one can has me just as excited as it would an alchoholic with a beer. Anyways, i was just wondering how this goes with breastfeeding? will i have to pump before i can feed Isaiah again or what?

Because I'm craving vodka.. which I wouldn't touch while breastfeeding.. I'd def. substitute it for a redbull.. damn

its ok to drink one or two drinks when you're breastfeeding, and you dont even have to pump and dump your milk. any more than that and you should supplement with formula. and ill find the site i read this on just to show ya:P

Dr. Jack Newman, member of the LLLI Health Advisory Council, says this in his handout "More Breastfeeding Myths":

Reasonable alcohol intake should not be discouraged at all. As is the case with most drugs, very little alcohol comes out in the milk. The mother can take some alcohol and continue breastfeeding as she normally does. Prohibiting alcohol is another way we make life unnecessarily restrictive for nursing mothers.

Some things I have read say to avoid Red bull because of the caffiene, and saying it may cause sleeplessness...

Having some alcohol while breastfeeding is fine.. If you don't get buzzed, you are safe to breastfeed. And you don't have to pump and dump because what is passed through the milk is negligable.http://www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/alcohol.html

Haha, unless you want Issiah to act like he's on crack, you should pump & dump. If you haven't had any he'll be wired. (off the Red Bull)

I personally dont trust redbull theres alot of weird chemicles...a beer would probably be healthier....IMO

thanks so much ladies; im defiantly going to pump and dump before i feed him again. im only drinking one can, and im about half done with it now, and its crazy how hyper i already feel, haha. before i got pregnant i could literally drink up to 4 cans in a row and not feel hardly anything, so this is pretty weird for me. my fiance thinks its hilarous though, he offered to buy me whatever alcholic drink that i wanted, and that he would watch the kids tonight, and when i told him id rather just have a redbull, i think his eyes about bugged out of his head :P

Actually, they say if you're going to drink something (caffeine, alcohol, whatever) you should do it right after you've fed the baby, and by the time the next feeding comes around it'll be mostly metabolized and won't pass much through to the milk.
