How long do you time contractions before determining that they are coming at 5 minutes apart (or however long)? Yesterday I found out that my group b strep was positive (I thought it was negitive because they never called me) and so my doctor wants me to come in when my contractions are 10 minutes apart. This is my third baby and she wants me to get in there in time to get antibiotics incase my labor is quick. Anyways, how long do I time them before determining that they are 10 minutes apart? Like an hour? Two? How many in a row at 10 minutes apart do I need to get before heading in? TIA.

10 minutes apart for an hour.

I do ten timings. Basically I wrote it down like this:

1) start: 8:03 am     End: 8:08 am

2) start 8:10  am    End: 8:15 am

Then I would go up to ten, that's just an example of how I did it. Then I would wait a little bit and do ten more timings. If it keeps getting closer together then I know labor is coming.

once they start coming, time them. It may take a while to regulate and come in intervals but when you get them 10 mins apart for a whole hour, I'd say that would be a good time to get your butt in! Good luck
