Second Opinion? BrookynRudy 1 child; United States 116 posts

I just had my gender ultrasound yesterday at 20 weeks. The lady said it was a girl but didn't sound so sure. She never showed me or my partner where the parts are to let us know wither or not there was a penis or not. I don't feel like I'm completely sure its a girl. I want to know before I make big purchases and plan my baby shower. Should I go and get a second opinion and did everyone have the same experience or are they suppose to show you and not just say

You can't tell based on that picture. We need a shot of the crotch. For girl you're looking for 3 distinct lines

I've never heard of them not showing you the parts when they tell you what it is..i was shown at my gender, anatomy and the last two 3D ultrasounds I had that she still had girl parts, find it odd she didn't show you.

If you want to know for sure then pay for a second ultrasound to find out. Why didnt you ask to see?

This--usually they'll type boy or girl on the U/S with an arrow.

The lady wouldn't let me see cause I had to lay down and couldn't see the screen and I know the picture you cant tell but she never even tried to show us. I'm guessing because the baby was moving to much and I really do hate having to pay for a second ultrasound because she didn't do something she should have.

She probably didn't ask because when wanting to find gender out its part of the anatomy scan to see not something you just skip.

Well technically she didnt have to. Its an anatomy scan not just a gender ultrasound.  Gender is not important to them. They care care about babys anatomy and measurements not if it has a penis or not. So ita either trust her word or get another ultrasound

Did you get a CD with pictures she took or just printed ones?

Its an anatomy scan not a gender scan so no it is not part of it. Whether the baby has a penis or not is irrelevant for what they are doing for the scan.

I know what the anatomy scan is for  BUT   almost every doctor/nurse/ ultrasound tech informs you at the time of your anatomy scan between 18-20weeks you can also find gender out if you would like to know....sooo if she wanted to find the gender out how is that irrelevant?

Because they didnt HAVE to tell her the gender. So it is irrelevant.

She did ask if I wanted to know so I assume she would of showed the part to my partner since she said I had to just lay there and I couldn't see

I only got printed photos and this was my anatomy scan/gender ultrasound and if you ask then I feel like your obligated to show and not just seem like your guessing.

The tech was supposed to turn the monitor towards you so you can watch the scan.
