Ugh!!!! Idk what to do Minion 3 kids; ., GA, United States 21802 posts

Idk what to do. Ds takes forever to eat lately. He has been sitting at the table for 40 minutes today so far and hasn't had three bites of his food. He chose the food so I know he likes it. He has been getting up to chase the cats, or starting off into space, or messing with something on the table, or staring off and chattering to himself under his breath about nothing.

Idk what to do. Yesterday he ate breakfast until lunch time. I tried taking his food away because it's ridiculous, but he kept telling me he was eating it so I have it back.

This has been going on a couple weeks now and it's driving me insane. I actually yelled at him last time he got up to chase the cats. It's ridiculous. I went to the bathroom and came back and he was across the kitchen making the cat walk across the counter.

He can't take his meds until he eats, and three bites isn't enough. He keeps asking for his meds and I tell him he has to eat more and he says ok and does nothing. What should I do? He's almost seven.

I can't wait until next week. Summer camp. Maybe my nerves will calm down with time to myself lol.

I'm sorry you are going through that.  DSS did it for the longest time.  Finally one night at dinner he was sitting there and sitting there and chipmunking his food.  I took away his plate, wrapped it up, and put it in the fridge.  I said when you can sit still, stop keeping your food in your cheeks, swallow what's in your mouth, and DO NOT GET UP.  I will give you your plate back... he looked at me like I was crazy, cried for a minute. Finished his food, asked to be excused, I asked if he was done he said yes, he went to go play.  20 minutes later he's in my face saying he is hungry.... i took out his plate nuked it and gave it back.  He screamed and said that's not what he wanted I said fine go play cause that's all you get.

I did this for 2 weeks.  I still sometimes have to take away his plate for him to focus.

He does this too! Hell have a fit that he's starving later, but refuses to eat the meal we were having. Like stomping, screaming fits.

Maybe I'll just have to take away his food like you said. I hate to do it because he's underweight as it is. He skipped lunch yesterday because he finished breakfast right around lunch so it was pointless to feed him again do I waited until like 3:30. Dh said he can't afford to lose anymore weight. I know it, but I can't make him eat. I can't force food down his throat lol.

He also stuffs his cheeks. He stuffs them so full you see the veins in his cheeks. It's painful to look at and I can't get it in his head that he's going to choke if he doesn't quit.

Try getting some of those ensure for kids or something like that or make him drink some milk.  At least then you know he's not getting empty calories from juice.  I never had to get them because DSS would always end up eating but his cousin pecks like a bird and will eat maybe a cup of food or less in a whole day from the time she wakes up till the time she goes to bed and she gets the ensure for kids so that she gets the nutrients she needs.

Hey that's a good idea!!! It's hard to get him to drink during the day, but it's easier to push than foods. He likes to drink a lot at night, though, so we could get ensure in him lol. I think he's thirsting to death by the evening so he drinks lol.

My kid takes forever to eat as well. It drives me nuts. BUT the funny thing is: she does not take long to eat at school.

I'm wondering if I give her a time frame if that would work. Like set a timer.

I could try that. Like you have twenty minutes to eat or else it's gone. And its not a lot of food I'm expecting him to eat. It's like one eggo waffle or one hot dog weenie or a sandwich made with one slice of bread.

I made him a hot dog weenie for lunch. Dd ate hers, plus another before he even took a bite. I was cleaning and he finally said I'm finished and walked away.

He had given dd the rest of his. It wasn't even halfway eaten. I didn't say anything because I didn't want the fight.
