Are you sure its not your babies position in there?
I actually JUST posted something quick about being uncomfortable @ work right now and that is what is killing me... it's ONLY on my left side, and I get it ALL of the time for some reason. It hurts pretty bad and it is so annoying. I have absolutely no ideawhat it is though... but if you find out anything let me know, and vice versa!!
have you had a uti recently? I'm just wondering if you had cuz maybe an infection backed up to your kidney.

Baby could be pinching a nerve. That happened to me all the time. It was a dull pain.
no i haven't had a UTI so i don't think thats what its from.. its possible that the baby is pinching a nerve... last week i had an ultra sound and her head is on the left so i'm not sure if its from her position but this is my first pregnancy so i dont know, could be.....Is there anything i could do about the pain though? its starting to make the top portion of my back ache
when i was pregnant with my daughter, who is now 2 years old, i had the worst back pain. i ended up going to a pregnancy chiropractor who said many pregnant women experience sciatic nerve back pain, which can sometimes become dibilitating. The pain usually starts in the lower back and spreads to your buttocks, and thighs, but sometimes it can reach up the middle of your back. in any event, you should check with your doctor to see if they can give you pain medication. i ended up taking tylenol with codine once a week for about 3 weeks until birth. Good Luck!
Sounds like a kidney infection/stone to me. My last pregnancy I had stones so bad I had to have a tube put in my kidney and out my back into a bag to pass urine. I had bad pain just below my ribs in the back and sometimes pain in the groin where the tube from your kidney to your bladder is. I would see a doctor right away. I almost lost my son due to kidney infections and stones. Infections lead to preterm labor and can affect brain development. Good luck!!
Thank you everyone for your insightful posts. I too am suffering from lower back pain, under my ribs. I am 17 weeks pregnant and have been just flooded with glorious morning sickness, and believe this to be the cause of my pain. It is this constant dull ache that will not go away, it only lessons if I arch my back straight or lay out a certain way. My question is, does this sound like it could just be muscle pain? Mind you I've had it now for 5 days, and I lead a pretty active life. Except for today and tomorrow, I'll be busy getting fat while celebrating Turkey day! Please let me know what you think!
I am also having issues with really bad back pain, on my left side, but my pain is more lower, closer to my hips! It hurts to sit, stand, walk...sometimes when I stand up I cringe, and have to stop and grit my teeth bc it hurts so bad. My pain comes and goes, but it's always on the left side and always in the same spot, right around the hip area....I am 14w6d pregnant with 4th baby.

I have the exact same problem recurring a few times a week.
I also have other non pregnancy related back problems. I 'm 30.5 weeks with my first baby.
As much as it hurts to do so, I normally have to take a walk for about an hour or so to loosen things up......Sucks because it normally starts in the middle of the night.
My massage therapist thinks it just my uterus stretching muscles more on one side than the other. Unfortunately you just have to deal with it. Try a hot water bottle (not too hot) on the area at first and see if it helps at all.
