So I asked my doctor if walking alot really helped induce labor naturally and he said in his expereince MOST of the time for his patients it DIDNT work. He said he has had many of women try it even when they were over due but it was a no go for them. So he personally doesnt feel its very effective. But he told me to have it cause it COULD work for me....right along with sex (which has NOT worked for me)
So my questions is for those of you ladies who have already had your babies...did walking induce your labor? And if so how long after you finished walking did you start having contractions?
So far its not working for me at all and ive been walking everyday! But I do plan on telling my doctor what I found out from the expereinces of other women. LOL He is intresting to have these chats with.
Thanks a bunch!
i dont think all the walking helped me to much...but i dont think it hurt either...nice to see you found yourself an internet conection mama, we missed ya!
I was almost two weeks overdue, and I took my dog for a walk from 40 weeks on. It helped me dilate, and it helped me stay in labor once I actually was in it. I even walked to DQ and got a slushee before I went to the hospital! It helped me progress while I was in labor, I walked around L&D, and I dilated from a 4/5 cm to 8/9 cm in roughly ten minutes.
well it didn't work for me when I actually try to walk to go into labor on purpose but the day I went into labor I was busy all day walking around the mall and go shopping and wasn't even think about being overdue (I was 7 days overdue) and my dad and siblings were coming from out of town that day and I was busy going out to dinner and stuff with them and I end up going to hospital in labor at 3 am next morning so I voted that it worked for me
walking does not induce labor obviously :) However it does do many beneficial things to help your body "ripen" so you can go into labor on your own. Walking helps keep your baby's head nice and applied to your cervix, and the motion helps work the baby down farther into your pelvis. It's the contact with the baby's head that encourages dilation. Walking also causes lots of Braxton Hicks for a lot of women, they have contractions while they walk that stop when they rest. So the more you walk, the more BH you have with the baby's head applied firmly to the cervix, the odds are you are going to make some progress towards your goal- which is do dilate to 10 cm so you can push! :) Many times the combination of walking and BH contractions can help roll you into the real thing as your body gets the message that your cervix is dilating. Make sense?? :) So walk walk walk! Its not gonna make you go into labor if you arent ready, but it will help your body become ready sooner than if you sat at home on the couch.

wow, thank yall so much ! this really helped.. i am due 8/13/08 but am about a fingertip dilated and go to the dr. friday to see if i am progressing. and i was deff. wondering about the walking. thanks so much ... :]]
Ive heard so many different stories on what causes labor. One girl (with no children might I add) tried to tell me tickling your nipples put her sister into labor. Well first off my bf loves my nipps and plays with them everyday and I havent even so much as felt a BH but once. Ive also heard the walking thing the sex thing, and some people say drink rasberry leaf tea. I personally think when your baby is ready to come labor will start. But my doula from lamaze and also my dr. have said something about the rasberry leaf tea. SO maybe you could try that if your trying to go into labor. But remember it has to be rasberry leaf tea. Regualr rasberry doesnt count I was told.
I was a 3 at my last check, I also have an appt tomorrow...here's to all of us being at 4cm!!!!!!!
