Whenever we go out to eat, Caleb like to dip crackers in ranch dressing while we wait on our food. I've never noticed a problem with it. Well, last week, we bought some Hidden Valley Ranch for him. We had forgotten all about it, then a little while ago I fixed him some chicken nuggets and gave him some ranch to dip them in. After a little while, I look and notice all around his lips, chin, right under his nose, and edges of his cheeks are all red. He's not eating anything red so I run my finger over it and it's all puffy.
I'm guessing it's a reaction to the HV Ranch because he had it all over his face. His had those same kind of nuggets before so we've ruled that out. And the ranch in restaurants is more than likely different than the HV kind.
Has anyone ever heard of an allergic reaction to any kind of condiment? I just hope it's only a skin reaction and nothing internal. Do any of you know how long it takes to notice a worse reaction?
Quoting Mommy Manders:
It's normal. All little kids I've noticed at this age tend to react that way to anything acidic. Their skin is sensitive right now, but it's not going to hurt them. I was really worried about it too, but my doctor said it was fine. If they like ranch, there's no reason not to let them have it!
thanks ladies! that's good to know! I thought it was the weirdest thing to have an allergy like that.
well, I am allergic to ranch dressing but it makes my tongue and mouth actually swell but i think if it does irritate their face I would say dont give it anymore. i hate when my face gets irritated and itchy, My kids are allergic to cinnamon and it does something similar.
My son (17 months) has the same reaction. I did notice that he also developed a rash on his stomach as well. I don't plan on letting him eat HV anymore.
Hi there, i eat the HV alot and i been sick to my stomach, vomitting, diaherria like issues, fever.....if you see a rash or anything i suggest not eating it anymore, my dr even said that they have a allergen problem alot in their office because HV doesnt tell consumers the actually possible allergies that there are in it. please make sure there is no other issues with ingredients with your kids. Thank you!
Quoting Xenula:" well, I am allergic to ranch dressing but it makes my tongue and mouth actually swell but i think if ... [snip!] ... give it anymore. i hate when my face gets irritated and itchy, My kids are allergic to cinnamon and it does something similar."
Did you or your children get sick the day after like with a respiratory illness along with diaherria and fever?
My son had the exact same reaction when he was a toddler, a red swollen rash from HV Ranch dressing. After that happened, I never let him eat Ranch again. (On a sidenote, he instead dips carrot sticks in ketchup and loves it). Anyway, Keegan is now 5, and yesterday my husband was eating some chips n' dip and Keegan ate some. Hubby thought it was French Onion Dip since that's what I usually buy, but this was Prairie Farms Ranch Dip. Keegan ate a few and then read the carton and said "Daddy, is this Ranch?" Oops. So he stopped eating them, but a few hours later he said his throat hurt. By nightfall he was throwing up and running a fever. Today he has 102.7 temp and has full-blown strep. I don't know if it was in fact the Ranch, but he's never eating it again!!!
HV ranch dressing has always made my tongue feel like its covered in cuts. I don't swell, turn red, or anything. After I eat ranch the hurting tongue lasts for a few days. It took me a long time to connect this happening with ranch dressing. I wonder what in the dressing is causing this reaction???
Our 14 month old just gave herself a facial with HV Ranch during dinner and immediately broke out in a hive-ish looking rash on her face. She doesn't seemed to be bothered by it, but it looks like we are taking HV Ranch out of her diet for a while.
My 16 month old had the same reaction it scared me half to death but he also has a milk protein allergy so I had no idea if its the milk in the ranch or just the ranch in general I got his epi pen out anyways just to be sure
I'm allergic to ranch dressing, lol. The same thing happens to me (get all red and puffy). It's happened since I was a baby
