Caffeine intake during second trimester Baby♥Fresa Due January 24 (boy); 1 child; Texas 1223 posts

So I've heard that drinking caffeine during the first trimester should be avoided if possible. Now that I finally made it to the second trimester (whoo hoo) I feel like I'm being a bad mommy  because I have been having a can of coke every now & then.
Let me tell you a few details about my addiction to cokes, so ever since I was 10 yrs. old from the minute I woke up to the second I went back to bed you would always see me drinking a can of coke. My addictionbecame a nightmare. I used to drink a 24 pack in 2days (sometimes it took me 3 days to finish the pack, but that was on rare occasions). I was a complete mess & sick most of the time, sometimes I even had to drink cokes behind my parents back.
Until one day when my parents got sick & tired of the situation so they tookme to the doctor. To make a long story short I ended up taking aton of medications to get rid of my of all my infections.
Now......a couple of years later I'vefinally defeated the addiction though I do drink a can of coke every now & then but not as often as I used to.
So back to the original topic, during my first trimester I didn't drink any caffeine at all, but now that I'm in my second tri it's been like a green light for me. Istarted drinking coke (again:shock:). I only drink like 2 cans per WEEK, butit makes me feel so guilty:oops: .
Do any of you ladies have the same problem as me?how much caffeine are you allowed to consume during pregnancy?
I'm just afraid todrink coke the way I used to back when I was a kid, sure now I'm only drinking 2 cans per week but that's how you start........before you know it's an addiction again & I really don't want to harm my baby in any way.

I drank coke everyday when I was pregnant, the baby was completly fine but now that I think about it that could be why he came a month early......hmmm:?

I drank a morning cup of coffee with all three and iced tea like it was going out of style with my first two. A coke here and there won't hurt you or the baby. They generally say you can consume the equivalent of two cups of coffee per day without any adverse side effects.

Your baby will be fine. I drank 1-2 cups of coffee per DAY during my pregnancy. You can have up to 300 mg a day of caffeine with no ill effects, so you're in the clear!

My doc said two 8oz glasses a day has shown no side effects to baby. I get headaches if I don't caffeine so I have to drink a glass everyday!!

I drank one iced coffee a month when I was pregnant. My friend drank Dr. Pepper everyday....& her children are fine.

They advise against too much caffeine, because it thickens the placenta.

You can drink it every day. It won't harm your baby. Just drink in moderation.

I drink a cup of coffee in the morning, every morning for almost my entire pregnancy. It sounds horrible, but the first trimester I didn't even know I was pregnant. (Long story.) The second trimester I tried VERY hard to not drink coffee but I'd go through horrible withdrawls and wouldn't be able to function. I only ever consume about 10 oz a day of coffee, just to tide me over.

The only thing I ever heard about too much caffiene intake is it can thicken the placenta? Don't know if that's true.

i had a problem with caffiene too, when i was 17, i drank so much that i got really sick with a kidney ifection and then back to back kidney stones....so i cut down to about a few cans a week, Now, that im pregnant i limit myself to one a can a day, but i sometimes go a few days without coke, everything is more than fine with my baby, so donr feel bad to have 1 can here and there, you can safely consume 2 to 3 cans a day if you want, but check with your docter to see what his/her opinion is on caffiene intake, im now in my 3rd trimester and so far went through the pregnancy with no problems, so ims ure your baby will turn out just fine as well :D
