I would try the toddler bed-and a baby gate in the doorway.

12 months seems pretty young, just because a baby can get in a lot of trouble when left to their own devices. It might work though. I'd just tell them no promises. My daughter moved into her toddler bed around her second birthday.

we started my first daughter at 13 months , she did pretty well with it , but we had our moments where it was a nightmare , so what we ended up doing is putting her play yard in the room with her and gave her the choice of which one she wanted to sleep in .... and by 20 months she was sleeping all the time ( naps, and nighttime) in her toddler bed ... good luck :)

I transitioned Will into a toddler bed at about 14 months old. I waited untill I was sure that he could get in and out of it safely and put baby gates up where I didn't want him wandering at night. If your child cannot climb safely, I seriously wouldn't do it.

I put my first in a toddler bed a little before she was a going to be two and a half. I'm going to wait and do the same for Lexi. I just wouldn't want her to fall and hit her head or something.

My first was in a todler bed when she was 12 months, it was in our room with us. THen after 3 months we had our second and we moved her into the room nextdoor with her sister and a baby gate at the door. She loved it. We are having #3 in febuary and are going to be moving our second in to a toddler bed. But she will be in it with in the next 3 months she is 14 months old right now. I think it would be fine. It is something you just have to try. Now if you wante to have another one and you want your own crib i don't see why not to buy a new crib. It is your preffernce
