Ok, so basically I got the shit scared out of my this morning (by a co-worker)... one of those gotya waaayyy off guard, lose your breath, got goose-bumps, and started to cry for a minute scares... and now I'm really worried.

I know that obviously it's not really "good" for ANYONE to get startled like that, but I'm sure it could be expecially traumatizing for a pregnant woman, right? I have felt movement since, but my stomach is hard a rock and I can't stop shaking yet... I'm trying to decide whether or not to call my doctor.:(

I'd take a few deep breaths, get some air and find something to occupy your mind for a while before calling your doctor. And punch your co-worker while you're at it.

The "fight-or-flight" response causes your body to release endorphins & adrenaline, which is what makes you feel like that. As far as I know, endorphins & epi are ok as long as it isn't for prolonged periods or over & over, like going to haunted houses, etc. You could call your doc to be sure & be reassured, but it is bound to happen during pregnancy, be it being scared, in an accident, etc.

You'll be fine. The guys that I used to work with would shout just to make the baby jump and thought it was hilarious.

Call your doctor if you need some reassurance, but I would say you're fine. The only thing you should be concerned about is if your heart rate is elevated over 150 for an extended period of time. With some pregnant women that's not a good thing, although its not true for everyone.

I get scared easily . . . my husband walks up behind me all the time and I don't hear him so when I turn around and he's right there it scares the crap out of me. He doesn't do it on purpose but he thinks it's sooo funny that I get scared to easily. It makes me mad though! You'll be okay momma!
