Im getting induced this Thursday:roll: and just want to know on average how long does it usually take for labor to start once you've been given the pitocin? Does it kick in after a few hours? or could it take all day?! I will be 39 wks tomorrow, im barley dialating, and I havent lost my plug or anything:(...could it take longer because of that?I wanna know if im going to see my little man on Thursday or if he will be here on Friday...or if it will even work all together!? Ifall the mommies out there that have been induced, could just give me some insight on this...Thank you.:)

It's different for everybody but I've been induced twice and have been holding my newborn within 6-8 hours of getting pitocin both times.

I was induced with my first. They actually took me in the night before and stuck this thing up inside of me which was supposed to make me thin. Well it worked because it 4 am I started having contractions and FAST. It wasn't an every 15 min thing. It was more like every 30 seconds. I had already dialated to a 4 and didn't even really feel anything. So they numbed me and added a little pitocin and he was there by 1...It actually would have gone a lot quicker except for the fact that he was HUGEEEEEEEE and I couldn't get him out. I wouldn't have done it any other way though. It was very controled and I knew what was happening the entire time.

I have never experienced this first hand, but my best friend had to be induced when she was pregnant with my stubborn little niece.
They started her pitocin Friday morning and she contracted all day, but nothing happened, they stopped Friday night(and so her contractions stopped) and started back up Saturday morning.... again contractions all day and no change. So they restarted Sunday... She was born at 4:06 pm Sunday night.
But she is a VERY stubborn little girl, Kasie was already 2 weeks overdue when they decided to induce.

Also... I was only 37 weeks, so it may have been long because he simply wasn't ready. :)

I was induced with my 3rd, but I was almost 3 cm already and about 90% effaced. It still took about 9 hours from start to finish with my induction. My other two labors, which were both natural were 6 hours each.
I got hooked up to the pitocin at 9:30 am the doctor broke my water around 1, I was around 4 cm then, pitocin didnt do much until they broke my water, an hour later I was screaming that I had to push but I was only around 5 cm. She was born at 5:26 pm. It was rough for me cause I was use to just getting to the hospital and being ready to push within a couple of hours.

My water was broke, but they put me on pitocin to get my labor started.

I was in actual hard labor for about 14.5 hours.
