So, I went to L&D the other night because I was having BHC about 7 times an hour. I had them all the way to the hospital, as we were checking in, changing into my gown, and then when they hooked me up to the monitors the BHC stopped. They watched me for about an hour and I didn't have a single contraction. They also said the baby wasn't moving enough but they gave me orange juice and he went nuts. The nurse checked my cervix, and I am dilated 1cm. She told me that it was fine because lots of women walk around at 1-2 cm for weeks. They told me that I didn't need to come back until my contractions were 5 min apart, or my water broke. Does that mean they don't want me back unless I'm in labor??? Aren't I a bit early for the 5 minute rule?
Well, I went to my family doctor today because I have a vicious sinus infection, and he told me that he's also an OB....who'da thunk it? He asked about the baby and everything and I told him about L&D. He told me that I shouldn't have any sexual activity or strain myself too much, because I shouldn't be dilating at all yet. Why didn't they tell me that at L&D?
I see my OB on tues. and I'm going to talk to him about it. Anyone else had this happen to them?
i was 1cm at 31 weeks and was that was until 35-36.
No but geez that makes me mad that the L&D staff was so nonchalant about it, like it's no big deal! Didn't they realize how far along you are?
I'm 1cm dialated and I'll be 33 weeks tomorrow.
They told me no sexual activity in L&D, but I had to have a shot to have my contractions stopped. Also, they told me if I have more than 4 in an hour to get back up there.
basicly be smart..whatever can cause u to go into labor..DONT DO.
lots of walking, having sex...so on
No the 5 minute rule pretty much applies throughout pregnancy. I started dilating at 30 weeks with contractions 6 min apart they gave me shots that didn't stop my contractions, gave me terbulatine to take at home and I made it to 36 weeks at 1-2cm dilated and 80% effaced for 6 weeks.

Thanks ladies, that was very helpful. I think that they were so busy in L&D that they weren't really concerned about what was going on. I hope that my OB is more on top of things when I go in on Tues. I am so worried about having this baby too early. My family doctor was telling me that if he were to come this early he would be a very sick baby, and that just made me panick even more. I don't plan on doing anything that I don't have to that would cause him to come early. I'm so glad that I've started antibiotics to get rid of my sinus infection, because he said that can trigger labor too. I'm starting to think anything but laying on my side causes contractions. lol.
