Does your heart race a little with BH contractions? Heidi May 2 kids; Portland, Oregon 410 posts

I have a history of some issues with a fast heart rythem (sp?) and have noticed that lately when I get BH contractions my heart seems to beat just a little faster. Do any of you experience this? I am wondering if this is something I should tell my OB and cardiologist...

I would let them know about it, yes.

Ok, good to know. I had a fast heart rate too (are you taking atenlol?) but had two surgeries for it...it's been great since, but I noticed this with the BH contractions, so of course it freaks me out...

I have this problem and I did go to my OB about it. My heart races and it feels like someoneis sitting on my chest crushing my lungs. I've got mitral valve prolapse and a very fast heartrate and the Dr. saidhe thinks it is just the added stress of the BH causing that reaction, but it is totally harmless.
I would still talk to your doc if I were you considering your history. Mine has scheduled an EKG for me in 2 weeks to see what happens exactly during the BH's and to make sure labor won't cause any serious issues on my heart.
Good luck, mama!

Wow, 120 BPM resting...Mine is about 100 resting now. I had several episodes of what is called "Supraventricular Tachycardia"...what would happen would all of the sudden (usually at rest) my heart rate would jump up to 240 (ish) BPM and STAY. I could see my coratid arteries and chest moving b/c it was so hard and fast. I would have to go to the firestation or ER and they would have to literally flatline me with this chemical called "adenocard". After this happening a few times, I had enough and got the surgery. It's called "Cardiac alblation" ...it's basically endoscopic and they go into your heart and pretty much caterize the excess electrical paathways. I had to do this twice. So with your condition, I believe this is not an alternative. What was your resting heart rate before pregnancy?
