Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with this condition and was able to breastfeed a newborn. I have not been officially diagnosed with the condition but wonder if I may have it since it seems I am experiencing my second cyst under an arm since 20 weeks of pregnancy. The first time it was caused by MRSA and I am hoping I do not again have a MRSA infection near my the source of my baby's food. Any help or insight on pregnancy and MRSA or pregnancy and HS would be helpful. Thanks.

Oh lord I would NEVER breastfeed if I had MRSA, its spread by bodily fluids and MRSA is one of th hardest infections to get rid of....that just my opinion though I would definately talk to your OB about it---im so sorry mama :?

Adding to that, you would have to be EXTREMELY careful and if that cyst broke or seeped even a drop of anything and your baby had even the tinyest scratch it could be passed on...just be verry careful and get your OBs opinion like I said cause maybe it is ok but I wouldnt mess with it...maybe if you pumped or worked something that way.....

there's a huge difference between HS and MRSA. If the cyst is close to where you had your last one it is more than likely MRSA as recurrences of any type of staph infections are very common. I would not breastfeed if you have MRSA as the antibiotics needed to treat it are excreted in breastmilk and can be extremely toxic in those quantities to newborns.

Ladies

Thanks for the reply. Since I hadn't had a fever above 101, I decided to wait. I talked to my GP and my OB, made an appointment at the OB and was told to wash everything in the bathroom with bleach to keep from recolonizing, apply heat, and to use hibacleanse for 3 days straight on my entire body. I am not sure if the cyst is MRSA positive, I just don't want to take any chances. This one does not hurt like the last one.
