Did anybody have a preemie that had to have a Open Heart surgery Done ?
PDA = Open heart Surgery
It's the most common surgery so i think a few might have. You said your sons was closed at 13 days, wasn't it done through catheter if the drugs didn't work?
My preemies had open heart surgery for defects and so he was on ECMO, he also had investigate catheterisations. I haven't heard of any preemies needing open heart surgery for their PDA, normally it's a small incision externally in their side. Did he have to have coils fitted?
PDA actually equals Patent ductus arteriosus and I've never heard of it requiring open heart surgery?

My son was born at 25 weeks and had to have surgery to repair his PDA. He was given the medication but it had to be stopped after 2 doses because it started to affect his kidneys. He was almost a month old when he had the surgery. It wasn't done through a catheter with a tiny hole. He had actual surgery to close it. The incision went from his nipple area around his back to his shoulder blade. They clipped and tied the hole shut. He has routine check ups with the cardiologist to watch it because as he grows there is a small risk that the clip could let go.
