One of my very first early pregnancy symptoms (at 6 dpo) was "sensitivity to smells". It began about 2.5 weeks ago. For some women, this means that smells make them sick or they smell things that aren't there. For me, it just meant that I could smell again. I have allergies on and off and while I'm not usually "stuffed up", I generally have a horrible sense of smell. But since then, I've suddenly been able to smell again .. more like a normal person.

Well today (5w 4d) I can smell more than just "normal" things. It keeps smelling like some kind of cat around the house. We don't have a cat and there's no way for a cat to get in our apartment, so it's strange to be able to smell something that's not there.

Anybody else have "smelly" stories?

LOL, yeah I do! My husband came home from an over night trip smelling like a woman's perfume (flowers). I tried to be calm and not over react when asking him and he kept swearing he didnt do anything. I start smelling him all over and it turns out it was his AXE deodorant. For some reason for a couple of days it smelled just like womens floral perfume to me. I was even in there smelling the deodorant container to make sure he hadn't used a womans deodorant. A couple days later I smelled it and it was back to normal. Lucky him! ha ha

i was at Kohl's i believe and i said to my mom that someone smells like polo blue, the cologne, we were around all girls and then this lady starts laughing and said that her husband uses it (lucky her, i love that smell) and it mustve stayed on her. even her perfume didnt overpower it.

Never heard of an improvement of the ability to smell during pregnancy. But why not, your whole body is in a period of change and so it's not unlikely that the senses change their characteristics.

Im not so bad now but when I was a few weeks pregnant I thought our bedroom smelt funny and I couldnt bear to go in the kitchen cos I thought it smelled like drains!! Still cant smell the air freshener we had in the kitchen then. Im not too bad now but still cant stand the smell of cooking bacon and other fried foods!

Well, I think I discovered the cat smell. My husband apparently opened a can of tuna that he's had sitting around forever. I found the empty can in the kitchen sink. The weird thing is that I couldn't smell it in the kitchen though, only over by the computer desk. lol

i can now smell whatever the water company puts in the water to "clean" it! It's smells like a flippin swimming pool to me! I hate brushing my teeth now because itmakes me vomit! And there are days when i have to put off taking a shower until lunch time (which is about as long as i can stand not being fresh!)
I can no longer stand the smell of wings or many other fried foods now. Or reheated foods. Something about the smell of the food "cooking again" makes me sick!
I could seriously go on all day about the smells that i smell now that never bothered me or i never noticed before! I feel your pain!
