Son can't keep a pacifier in for nothing! Cole's Momma ♥ Due September 15 (girl); 1 child; Portsmouth, Virginia 86 posts

My son is 3 months old and fights to go to sleep every time he goes down, whether it be a nap or bed time. If I give him a pacifier it calms him down and he's out, but I have to sit there and hold it in! I know he likes it.. he just can't keep it in. His tongue hits it and it comes flying out. Does anyone else have this problem? I have tried soothies, nuk and mam silicone. He seems to like mam the best but I wish I could find one that he can keep in on his own. Is it just the way he sucks or is it the pacifier? :!::?:

Yep my baby is the same way! I use NUK, but it still does not help....
My baby is a preemie so I think that is why. I think he just needs for the muscles in his mouth to strenghten....thats what the nurses said about the little one...

my daughter was the same way...I used to just swaddler her and use one of those pacifier clips, and clip it to the blanket I swaddled her in. Sorry, its hard to explain what I did, lol....I used to clip it to the blanket from the inside of the blanket and wrap the blanket around it, if that makes any sense at all. ugh, I wish I had a picture, It would make it alot easier to explain.

We used to have that problem. He would want the paci but couldnt keep it in his mouth. So what we did was give him the bigger size of the mam and that actually worked.

my kids were the same way, we gave up, and did the CIO method, and it worked well for us. And it is one less thing we have to break the habit of.

My son won't either (he's 6 weeks). Only time he will is when he's dosing off to sleep. Sometimes when I'm awake during the day I'll prop the blanket up so it kinda holds it in his mouth.

Mine couldn't hold one in on her own till she was 5 months old. I recently got playtex ones and those seem to stay in pretty well. Maybe you can try to up the nipple size to a 3-6 month one. It may help him hold it in better.
