Questions about high blood pressure and natural childbirth

When I first found out I was pregnant, I planned on getting an epidural. Then I talked to a friend who loved giving birth naturally and really recommends it. She is also pregnant again and plans to do it natural again. She was in labor for 17 1/2 hours, induced and had pitocin but did not receive an epidural even with her back labor. I find that to be impressive. I have heard many stories about pitocin and back labor and to have both and still refuse an epidural gives me hope. Also, reading about how all the BG mamas who have given birth natural would recommend it as well was helpful in changing my mind.

I plan to do do all the necessary things to help prepare myself for a natural childbirth.

Here comes the reason for my post:

At my April 1st appointment, I was having my glucse test. I was nervous about it. They checked my blood pressure it was high. They went on to check it 3 more times during that appointment. For the most part, it started out as high but then became borderline high. After seeing the doctor, it helped to bring my blood pressure down. Since it was still a little high at the end of the appointment, with the blood work they had to take for my glucose test, they also tested for Preeclampsia. My doctor also wanted me to do a 24 hour urine collection analysis.

My doctor told me to go to the hospital if I had any signs or Preeclampsia. The day I dropped my urine collection off, later that night I decided to go to the hospital for the headache I was having all day. Everything came out fine. The doctor gave me my results. I do not have gestational diabetes or Preeclampsia and there was no protein in my urine. Even though they say they will call if something is wrong, I rather off they call even if everything is ok. I was glad to get the results instead of waiting until my next appointment. At the moment, my high blood pressure and headaches are due to tension and stress.

My next appointment was this past Wednesday, April 15th. My blood pressure wasn't TOO much cause for concern but still borderline. So, at each of my next appointments I will be getting either blood work done or an ultrasound to make sure that I am not getting Preeclampsia on top of the gestational hypertension. My doctor also told me that as of right now, nothing premature will happen, but for hypertension they do induce at 39 weeks, unless things change but, they will try and make sure I go full term.

My mother had Preeclampsia with my sister and I. When she was pregnant with me, they thought she was going to have me early. I eneded up being 2 days early from due date. She did go on hospital bedrest for 9 days until she delivered. She was on the highest dose of medication that they told her not to breastfeed because her milk would be fatal to me. When she was pregnant with my sister, she had too much fluid in her. They wanted to schedule a c-section for her but she ended up going into labor on her own. She was able to deliver vaginally and it was too late to give her an epidural. She also could not breastfeed my sister. She was born 2 weeks early. They had to perform an amnio 2 weeks before she was born and her lungs were still immature. She had so much extra fluid that when the doctor induced her the fluid went all over the dcotr and he had to change his pants.

Now my questions are:

For those of you who have/had Hypertension:

Did you have it your entire pregnancy? Or did you already have high blood pressure before? Were you able to have a natural childbirth if you wanted to (no epidural)?
If you were induced, at what week did they induce you?
Did you have to have pitocin?
Did you develop preeclampsia?
Did you go on bedrest? What kind (hospital, mild, moderate, strict)?
Your experience with it just in general.

For those of you who have/had Preeclampsia:

When did you get diagnosed with it (What week?)?
Did you deliver vaginally? Were you able to have a natural childbirth (no epidural)?
Did you have to get induce?
Did you have to have pitocin?
Did you need a c-section?
Did you go on bedrest? What kind (hospital, mild, moderate, strict)?
Your experience with it just in general.

I am wondering about all this because I really wanted to go into labor naturally, labor at home as long as possible, avoid induction, pitocin, and an epidural. I wanted to do as much as possible natural.

I know that an epidural can keep blood pressure from rising so I want to know how possible that is and if I am being realistic. Especially if I have to be induced, I will already be at the hospital and will probably be given the pitocin and epidural.

I am hoping they are wrong on my due date. I have been given just about everyday from June 30th to July 8th. Since it seems I will be induced a week early if I am still pregnant, I am hoping that my original due date, June 30th is the accurate one and will go into labor on my own, or sooner. I will be getting many more ultrasounds, even though they are not always accurate, we will be able to get a general idea, and I'm sure I will get an amnio.

Even if I do have to get induced, how many were able to do it without an epidural even dealing with high blood pressure or preeclampsia?

Also, any advice in general would be great as well.
I am a first time mom so I got the worries!

I am posting this in both the labor and birth section and pregnancy issues section.

Thank you in advance!

I didn't have preeclampsia, but i often had high or borderline high BP during my pregnancy. since i had no other signs of preeclampsia, my midwife just kept a close eye on it. i went into labor at 39 and 3, and had her at home after 31 hours of labor.
