Alexa is 2 weeks old and finally lost her umbilical cord, but it looks like there is still some in her belly button that isn't dried up. Is this normal?

my babies cord did the same thing. keep cleaning it as instructed, and keep doing sponge baths. dont pick at the pieces, they will come out on there own.

A girl I work with has a daughter who is 8 months old. She noticed the other night at bath time what looked like a piece of cord in daughters belly button. Now rather than gently trying to see what it was she had her husband grab some tweezers and her words "we turned her innie into an outie" and forcefully pulled it out.
