My daughter was playing earlier, and slipped backwards and hit her head on the hard floor before I could catch her. Its been a little over an hour since it happened, and she seems fine. Is it ok to let her go to sleep? Shes acting fine, and there is a small bump on the back of her head. Help me out!

Did the bump go in or out?

Did you already check her eyes for any signs of strange dilation?? If one dilates faster than the other or they seem slow to I would be worried, but chances are she's fine and since an hour has gone by and there are no signs of concussion it should be okay. Kids are remarkably resilient. Aidan slams his head into things at least once a day and trips over his own feet constantly.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you call your child's doctor for advice if your child receives anything more than a light bump on the head.
Signs that a child who has a head injury needs medical attention include:

  • Loss of consciousness Repeated vomiting Seizure (convulsion) Headache that gets worse over time Changes in your child's behavior, including irritability or difficulty waking Changes in your child's physical coordination, including stumbling or clumsiness Confusion Slurred speech Lasting or recurrent dizziness Blood or fluid discharge from the nose or ears A cut that won't stop bleeding after you've applied pressure for 10 minutes
