I cut my LO's finger on accident this morning while trimming her nails and I feel terrible!!! She scratched her face in her sleep last night so I thought I would trim them and she happened to be awake (mistake). I accidently nicked her thumb. She didn't cry at first, but then a little later, when she was back to sleep she tried sucking on her hand and it woke her up. She cried so hard for like 5 minutes or so...I was crying because I feel bad and it's my fault she hurts. I just wiped it with a clean damp cloth and have a mitten over it. Can I put a little Neosporin + Pain Relief on it if it bothers her again? The tube says ask a doc for kids under 2, but since it's so tiny, would it hurt her? My baby hasn't been to her new pediatrician yet so I would need to call the ER to ask i guess and it's not really an emergency. Thanks for any advice...
I think we all have done this. I switched to the baby nail scissors instead of the nail clippers. They work much better
I did this with my first son, I was soo upset. I wouldnt cut his nails for weeks! Then I started filing them instead :)

I cut my daughters finger the very first time I did her nails, so traumatic (for me! she didn't even notice!).
I would avoid polysporin just becausev she will probably put her hand in her mouth... Just try and keep it clean, and dont' feel bad!!
We have all done it. I just kept her finger clean and she was all healed in a few days. It is all a learning curve. Don't beat yourself up about it.
I did that with my oldest!!!
Now I just pick their nails. I think every mother has done this before.
I've cut my poor baby too. I feel horrible when it happens. Once I was trying to cut his nails I snipped both his thumbs and one of his index fingers!!!! He was only about a week or 2 old at that point, I was also suffering a little ppd and so I was crying more than he was. thankfully those kinds of things heal quickly. I did avoid cutting his nails until he was older and his nails were bigger though, after that.
I've done that a few times with my son. Don't feel bad.. we alll do it. I've bonked his lil noggin too. He never once cried about his fingers, the most he did when I bonked his head was cry for like a second and then he was happy again. Just keep in mind, they won't remember it. LOL
I did it the first few time I cut my LO's nails....Don't worry they get over it much quicker than you do. Mine doesn't suck on her fingers much but she is almost 6 months now & I guess she has gotten used to me cutting her & it doesn't phase her anymore! Don't beat yourself up mama but I will tell you if you're using the safety first clippers with the big orange handle you will cut her everytime. I bought a kit of little remedies, etc & it had a regular pair of nail clippers in it & I haven't cut her since then.
I've done it before when my son was much younger... I felt soo f**king shitty, it would even bleed a little & this one time my husband (@ the time) made me feel all guilty about it :(
Aww.. I did it too to my little girl a few days after she was born.. and she still has a little scab on her thumb. :(
