Anya is almost 5 months, but almost 2 months corrected, and her pediatrician, he is also a neonatalogist, had us start giving her rice cereal by spoon, he gave us things to look for if she wasn't ready, like her trying to suck on the spoon, instead of gumming it, well she took to it right away. Well we have an infant nurse (don't know how much experience she has with preemies, stupid me keeps forgetting to ask), come to see Anya about once a month, and the nurse freaked when I said her pediatrician said that she should start rice cereal, in her own words, called us liars, said she would talk to the ped about it, and he confirmed it, she read him the riot act, but I trust her pediatrician more than I trust the nurse. I just would like to know your thoughts on it, and at what age did your baby start taking rice cereal by spoon whether or not your baby was a preemie or not, but if your baby was a preemie, what corrected age did they start it?

yah hunter started the rice cereal around 3 months but i told his doc at his 4 month check up/shots.She asked if he was showing all those signs and how he liked it..told her he was great and she said awesome try those others now. She didn't freak out on me for it she just said that im around him more then her and he seems hungry go with my instincts. She said that people try to follow the books to closely and its not necessary!

I don't see how it could hurt her, really. I had to put rice cereal in kamari's bottle because of his reflux when I brought him home from the NICU. I didn't start trying to spoon feed it to him though until he was 4 months corrected. He did so-so with it, he is now 4 1/2 months corrected and he opens his mouth for the next bite and swallows it rather than pushing it out like he was. Justmake sure she is still eating the same amount of formula or breast milk still, because that has more nutrients and what not. Do whatever you are comfortable with, she's your baby.

I'm with the nurse. 2 months corrected is 2 months corrected. My kids started at 8 months and 6 months. That was 5 months and 4 months corrected. Even then I wonder if I should have waited a bit. How much does your daughter weigh? How much formula is she taking?

Deborah's pedi had me give her rice cereal at 2 1/2 months because she was spitting up [ by spoon ] she would suck on the spoon but would make " chew " movements with her mouth. She is now 4 1/2 months & she eats rice cereal here & there she loves it mixed with a little pear juice or baby food [ pears . . but i only give her enough to get the flavor of the pears into the cereal. Her pedi said it was okay ] and she loves sweet potatoes
