Vertical c-section == District of Columbia 5942 posts

There is nothing yet to indicate I'll need a c-section, but I was asking my dr a few questions yesterday and he said if he were the patient he would get a vertical c-section vs the bikini cut - if he had to have one at all. Something about they heal better and less likely to cause chronic pain later.

Anyone have a vertical? What are your thoughts?

I hope I don't need a c-section at all, but I'm just trying to gather info...

I swear the recovery is way worse since they cut through your ab muscles.

I had 2 c sections.

Really..

Isn't the vertical cut much bigger than the bikini cut...I am almost 10 months pp and I don't get pain from my bikini cut, but than of course I have only had 1

Vertical is outdated and not very cosmetically appealing, and it seems more invasive.

The bikini cut won't leave a large nasty scar across your entire abdomen. Just a small line where nobody but your SO will see anyway.

Is your doctor pretty old fashioned or older?

If you get a vertical, I'm almost positive you have to have all your babies that way after it vs the bikini

I didn't think it was very common to have a vertical cut. I am pretty sure it is more painful and longer to heal.
I had an emergeny c-section and it was bikini style. I recovered really quickly and it never really hurt at all.

don't do that! your doctor is a jackass.. everyone I know has healed fine with a classic horizontal cut. and i've never had been in my scar??

it's so noticeable if you get a v-line too.

i have never heard that before! i would fight him on that. vertical c-sections have higher chances of uterine rupture than bikini cut, as well as being even less desirable visually than bikine.
healing i would imagine would be worse because there is more muscle, and besides there is a reason why nearly every doctor only does vectical in truly emergency situations!! it's the worst to recover from, and has the least respect for mothers wanting more than one child afterwards.
at least with a bikini cut, the scarr can be hidden, the healing is easier because of less muscle to go through, the chances of a uterine rupture is far less in subseqeunt pregnanies, and vbacs are possible.
