slow weight gain in 3rd trimester?? mommy of two girlies St John's, 10541 posts

hey ladies... my cousin is petite, asthmatic and 8 months pregnant with her first baby. her asthma has been acting up a lot lately and she's noticed that the baby isn't moving as much these days ... and she hasn't gained weight in three weeks .. her dr doesn't seem concerned but she was asking my opinion as to what i thought ... well the lack of activity is most likely due to the fact that my cousin is so small that the baby has run out of room to move much .. i told her to do the 10 movement over 2 hours "kick count" ... but i didn't know what to say about the lack of weight gain (I didn't have that "problem" :D when i was pg .. i kept packing on the pounds!! hahaha)

i was thinking that where my cousin is so small that the baby can't grow b/c it's already up into her ribs as much as it could get .. buuut then her stomach would just poke out more... right?? idk... that's the only thing i thought of... :?

so have any of you had your weight gain slow down in the third trimester?? do you have any suggestions as to why it might have slowed??

I haven't gained a pound in two weeks. But my doctor says it is ok. I think that in your cousins' case if she is really very concerned she should ask her doctor again, and be persistant about it

I haven't gained in a few weeks, but my doctor isn't concerned because the baby's heartbeat is always perfect. Maybe the baby hasn't been moving as much beause there isnt enough room to move. Thats whats going on in my case. I am pretty small (weighed 98 lbs before I got pregnant) and my doc just says the reason I dont feel as much movememnt is because she doesnt have any room to move anymore.

baby's don't move as much later in pregnancy...there's not much room to move around in there.
I wouldn't worry about slow weight gain...especially if her doc isn't worried. You're only supposed to gain like 25 lbs the entire time... I only gained 18 and mine wasn't concerned at all. If they're not concerned, she doesn't need to be. They're the pros!
the baby is now just adding on chubs..so he or she will grow as much as she needs to, she just wont' be able to have room to kick or jab.

thanks ladies... as i said in my OP i figured the lack of movement was just a space issue :) .. it was the weight gain that i didn't know about ... but thank you :D

My doctor told me early on in my pregnancy that a lot of women don't gain very much in the third trimester. This has been true for me so far. I've gained 1 lb (some days) in like a month. My doctor isn't concerned. She said she looks at an overall weight gain rather than week to week.
