Why do people put grease in their hair? I'm black (DUH, LOL), and I HATE grease, it feels so nasty in my hair. Plus it's ummm greasy, lol! The few times I did use grease just to see what it was like, my hair felt so dirty and just oily, plus I had grease all over my hands each time I touched my hair. I know some people say they use it to moisturize their hair...but your scalp has natural moisturization anyway...so why add more? I wash my hair every day...a few times I skipped a day, and my hair just felt nasty, so I always wash my hair everyday now. Alot of black people I know only wash their hair once or twicea week, b/c they say black people don't have to wash their hair everyday like other races...huh? We always washed our hair everyday in our family. Even when I use to wear weave/extentions/micros/braids/shreds, I still use to wash my hair every day. I just washed it very gently so the weave wouldn't come out.
Also people ALWAYS tell me that I have "white" people hair, b/c it's long and very soft...ummm it's hair, and I find it funny when people classify hair as "white" people hair and "black" people hair. I TRY my best not to do that also, but I slip up sometimes, lol! Also, I don't use that many products in my hair. Sometimes I use hairspray to hold a style, and I use gel sometimes b/c my hair is way too soft. So I use a little gel sometimes to keep my hair in place when I put my hair into a tight ponytail. Shampoo, conditioner, gel, and hairspray is about the only products I do use in my hair...well sometimes I do a deep oil treatment for my hair. So I was just curious about why people use grease in their hair?
to keep my scalp moistured and itlooks so much healthierand it prevents from getting head lice...if i dont use grease i use oil
Because of my hair texture if I don't use something moisturizing, my hair will break. I don't use a lot of grease just a little bit on one finger. In the other thread I posted the one that I use, it is really good and you just need a little bit.
grease makes me quiver lol , definatly use gel instead!
Well I'm white <--- obviously and sometimes I put oil in my hair. Just a little bit though. I have naturally thick, dry, coarse hair and it helps make it shiny. I have been using this stuff called Joico K-Pak and it works wonders. I know that one of the black ladies I used to work with got pissed because one of or participants, a developmentally delayed black girl, came up and put her head on her shoulder and left a grease mark. It was a little ridiculous, the grease stain was HUGE and this girls mom had put a shit ton on her hair.
I seldomly use grease because it really creeps me out. When I do use it it's because my hair is not naturally oily at all..my hair gets dry soo fast so I have to keep it moisturized..therefore I only wash my hair once a month.
My hair is very curly and gets really frizzy in certain types of weather, so sometimes I put mineral oil in my hair. It's really light though, not super greasy.
African americans hair is normally a different texture, and its harder to keep moisture because of that reason. i actually JUST watched the tyra episode of this the other day LOL.
Grease makes me want to puke when I see someone with it in their hair. It looks dirty to me. And I agree though that white/black hair is VERY different. The texture etc. is like night and day.
Quoting YANA`S MAMY x3:
I used to use it when my hair was growing back in. I used some vitamin enriched formula and massaged it into my scalp to help stimulate hair growth after chemotherapy.
When I was in jail I used it to dread my hair.
Other than that I've never used it. And in all honesty I've seen just as many white people use hair grease as I have black and ethnic. If you have chronically dry scalp, the grease and oil can help keep moisture in and your hair healthy.
i HATE grease. my hair greases up on its own:lol:.
i only use it if i'm in a rush and i need grease & water for a quick ponytail. i don't use gel anymore, never have used hairspray. and i get a relaxer once a month
I didn't read the entire post (ETA read it now)... But when you're black your hair doesn't produce the natural oils so it's dry most of the time, that's what I've always been told. My hair doesn't get greasy & I'm only partially black (dad is black & native american) - I could probably go a week or more & my hair wouldn't get nasty. I'm sure it would smell though lol. ETA - my hair is more "white people" than black lol. It's soft & shiny most of the time.
my aunts used to grease my hair up when I got it braided, when I was younger. No way in hell you'd see that shit near me anymore.
