My son is just a few days shy of being 1 month old. He's got such horrible gas he cries and strains and turns himself beet red all day and night long. We went from regular formula to soy and now I'll be putting him on Nutramigin (sp).
In the meantime, he's absolutely miserable constantly. I've been told by family to try some peppermint water and that it works wonders. But I had always heard not to give water to babies that young. I don't want to risk anything. Has anybody here given it to newborns?
What do I do? And if I can give it to him, how do I make it?
My best friend did with her daughter. She dissolved the peppermint sticks in SUPER hot water and once it cooled down, shegave her daughter like an ounce every hour or so until she felt better.
i dont know if im supose to either or not but i do.. i give my 2 month old pepermint water sometimes.
i jst put like 3 oz of water and throw in a pepermint and skae it a lil, get the flavor dissovled a lil and then i take the mint out.
i no babies can choke on water since its thinner than formula so watch ur baby when u give it to her/him. and burp them still.
he seems to do fine with it.
I have no idea about peppermint, but small amounts of water are fine. Dr Sears in The Baby Books recommends one "bottle"of water per day for FF babies. so, if a baby drinks 4 oz bottles, 4 oz thru the day is good. BF babies get no benefit.
have you tried gripe water or gas drops?
I'm not sure about the peppermint water, since she is so young.
Have you tried gripe water? That stuff works magic on upset tummys.
