Mistaking contractions for gas (Q) baaaaailey 1 child; McDonough, Georgia 6072 posts

Okay that might sound a bit silly.

I've been having cramps all day, very low where period cramps would be, but it's almost as if I can't determine if it's a contraction or gas... And that sounds crazy too, but a lot of times I even felt this "gas" cramp when I was preparing for my cycle (following? Lol)

It felt like a cramp, then would let up for like a second and start back (depending on slight position amends while sitting on my birthing ball, slight changes in weight) but was fairly consistent for 20-40 seconds and stopped, now I'm waiting to time how long the next one is if it ever comes.

ETA: I just typed all that and forgot to make it a question, lmfao. Anyways- How often have you heard of someone mistaking contractions for gas? Since last night they've been coming. If you did, how long did you mistake it before you realized they were real? Did they last DAYS?

Might be contractions or BH.

If they are real contractions, eventually you will know. Gas doesn't come in regular intervals.

you're probably coming close. labor contractions will feel like period cramps times a million.

I don't think I could have mistaken mine for anything but I'm sure some people could. Probably depends on a lot of different things.

Usually when I have a gas pain, I end up letting loose a few seconds later, I've had a lot lately. A girl on True Life described her contractions as feeling like super strong gas pains, so maybe. But like somebody else said, contractions should be pretty regular.

Yeah, my contractions felt like I had to take a 10 lb crap IMMEDIATELY.

So I could have thought they were gas if they hadn't woken me up at 3am. But within a few hours, there was no mistaking them for anything.

Hmm yeah, when I was in L&D the other night they had me on a monitor and she pointed out my "mild contractions" that I didn't feel.

"These are those period like cramps your feeling," and I was just like, "I don't feel anything" and she went on to explain that those were mild contractions :?

So I have no idea, it's been 10 minutes and I moved and felt them again, but I have no idea if it's just coincedence that I moved, or coughed or something.

Towards the later part of my second trimester I swore that I was having contractions and going into labor, but my mother assured me that it was probably gas. The thing was that I was in a lot of pain! But what do you know 45 minutes later it was gas.

During my third trimester I was experiencing menstrual cramp type pains, and I never really thought anything of it except that it was due to the perks of being pregnant. I did bring it up to my next apt, and my Dr. explained it to me that if I'm experiencing "menstrual type cramps" then I am having actually contractions, going into preterm labor, and then he put me on some meds to stop my contractions.

Call your Dr. in the morning and explain what your feeling.

When I went into labor with Kayleigh I started having mild gas/period like cramps that would come & go every 5 to 15 minutes. But then they started getting more painful & close together.
I hope yours are real :)

Man, I know when I get a gas pain, it really.... really feels like the real thing. I was hurting really bad for about 50 mins. straight and I had to lay down and clench to my couch. I thought that I was having the baby, but it didn't come and go like contractions did. I would know, I didn't get an epidural until I was 7 cm dialated with my first girl.... but the pain was almost just the same, plus a burning sensation in my belly... the only thing... wich might be TMI the realievedit was a bowl movement and throwing up at the same time... and that SUCKED! I hate gas and constipation. Uuuhhhg.
