Newborn making funny noises while sleeping? Queenbee021408 2 kids; Alaska 1581 posts

My daughter is16 days old and when shes sleeping, she makes the weirdest noises! It sounds like shes grunting, along with like her throat is clogged up or something... and then shes always making a noise like shes humming to the movement of her swing while sleeping. Is this normal or should I get it checked out???? Its freaking me out and she's done this since we came home from the hospital. We went to her two week checkup on Friday and I had concerns with her breathing because she was gasping for air and then afterwords she'd breathe really fast and then slow down and then stop breathing fora few seconds and then repeat the cycle again and her pedi told me that it was completely normal, its her way of"transitioning."That's some scary crap for a new mommy!!!! Any help/advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

An ENT (Ears Nose Throat dr) would understand better.
Sometimes there's flap in their throat that is too soft but will self correct over time (harden) and sound will disappear.
My brother went to an ENT and he had enlarged anoids and tonsils.

Have your LO sleep on her side instead of her back.... just remember to alternate sides (even though she would probably have a preference to a side) because the head could mold after a while.

My son had the soft flap thingy.... I was so uneasy about it, that I had him sleep in his bouncer until he was 5 months old. It was a 2-for-1 because he was soooo gassy and he was able alleviate the gas being elevated.

She's been gassy too! Shes the hardest little girl to burp in the world. I'll pound on her back for a good 10mins and wont get 1 burp so her pedi told me to just get gas drops and since I'm breastfeeding, she doesn't necessarily need burped cause she's not getting that much air when shes feeding but I've recently started using formula a couple times a day as well but the noises just scare me shitless. Sometimes I get NO sleep at all because I'm too busy watching her breathe and make sure shes still breathing. I'm glad my LO isn't the only one who has this problem! Her next appointment isn't until her 2month checkup but if it continues, I might just call the nurse hotline number they gave me just to get some more reassurance cause it really does scare the crap out of me. Thank you mamas for easing me a bit. She has a bouncer but shes not too fond of it... I sometimes let her sleep in the boppy cause its holding her in an upright position almost. Maybe I'll try to put her bassinet in that type of position cause I have one that has a diaper changer at the bottom of it so I can easily prompt it up. Thanks again!!! Sooo much!

Dang, we've got us some stubborn babies! lol
Right now shes sleeping in the bassinet next to my bed so I'll have to find something hard to prop it up with. Whenever shes in the boppy, I am always next to her so I watch her and make sure shes breathing. My worst fear in the world is SIDS... I was actually in the suffering and lost threads today and read about someone losing their LO to it and now I just can't get it out of my mind so I'm being super paranoid to where I'm suffering from no sleep. The joys!!
How do I know when shes had an ounce if shes on my b**b?? When I use a bottle, I use the drop-ins from playtex and I always push the air out of them before I give it to her.

I have OCD not Howie Mandell status. But enough to bother me at night. I can;t sleep until lI feel everything is done. With that being said.
SIDS is my biggest fear. To the point where I can't sleep because I have to feel him contsantly or I feel weird of sick. I hate it alot. Dx Part of the reason I breastfeed is because it reduces the risk of SIDS.

She's usually on the b**b for 10-15mins at max. I don't switch b**bs either.. one b**b is enough to fill her up. The reason I am using formula as well is because she sucks the crap out of my nipple and she gets too demanding sometimes and its easier to just make that bottle lol But I normally breastfeed more than using formula cause I honestly feel like a bad bad parent if I don't BF her. I'll definitely try burping her maybe after 5mins of being on and then see how that works out. Thanks for the suggestion!
And we usually have the fans on in every room... my husband is weird like that! Does it have to be on the lowest setting though? Cause I think in our bedroom, its actually on med/high.

Howie Mandell lolllll! I know we're not the only paranoid mamas about sids but I actually know someone personally who lost their son due to it and it just really freaks me out that it truely can happen to anyone at any given time. That's the only reason why I wish she was at least 1 already. It'd make me less stressed and I'd be able to get some sleep. I sometimes co-sleep too due to her being fussy and the only way to clam her down is to be right next to me.. and I know, thats a risk factor but it comforts me knowing that I can feel and hear her breathing and I don't have to keep getting up to her bassinet. *sigh* I wish there was never a such thing, but life is never fair.

I guess just live it day by day. I enjoy everything my little man has to offer and I can't wait to see what what he will be like at 9 months, a year, and so on. I have an appt tomorrow so I shall go to sleep. Night. :)

Oh my goodness... Emma HATED my left b**b in the hospital. Absolutely refused to latch onto it, even with a nipple shield!!! Now she'll latch onto it because shes a little piggy!! And I alternate sides with each feeding. I think thats why I can feed her just on one b**b each setting. My left b**b gives me sooo much more milk when I pump though :)
