It's hard to forget the iconic "Barbie Girl" song by the Danish pop band Aqua: "I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world. Life in plastic, it’s fantastic." It's one of the best 90’s hits! Kids, teens, and adults – many dressed in grunge tops and electric colors – could be caught singing along to the lyrics. Not surprisingly, this song was a big hit. Although now many admit that "undressing Barbie anywhere" sounds a bit creepy, one cannot stay emotionally distant to a song about Barbie.

Even if you are a fan of gender-neutral toys, you can’t ignore the influence Barbie dolls have had and keep having on boys and girls. Well, I’ll tell you my secret – during the day I used to play soccer with the boys, but secretly in the evening, I would open my drawer and snuggle with my Barbie dolls, including Ken!

While kids now can get a Barbie doll or a Barbie set easily, there are still some dolls that only the celebs of Hollywood can afford. Some celeb kids and crazy collectors, for example, wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Barbie doll with real diamond earrings. Other celebrity kids can even play with a Barbie doll that resembles their own mama. Hmm, a great way to stay in touch, especially when their parents are away touring or filming.

How much would you bid for a Barbie doll? Nah, sorry, $10,000 is not enough.

15 Moschino Barbie Set: $200

Have a look at this Barbie set - a gem on our list. It’s not about celebs, it’s not about the Royal family, it’s simply about fashion and positive vibes. Fashion? Which is the first country that comes to your mind? Beautiful Italy, of course. The Spanish Steps in Rome, the elegant shops in Milan... Aww, so much style and espresso.

The luxury fashion house Moschino is a symbol of Italy, specializing in different areas. From leather accessories and shoes to fragrances, Franco Moschino created a stunning empire. Many collectors and rich kids would love to have this Moschino set.

Talking about collections, it’s interesting to mention that the LA nail artist Azusa Sakamoto has been collecting Barbie items since she was 15.

Since the moment she bought her Barbie lunchbox, her passion moved from dolls to real items. She’s spent more than $70,000 on Barbie-related things. From towels to shoes, everything is about Barbie and pink.

Who knows? Maybe people like her would bid for the Barbie and the Diamond Castle, which costs more than $110,000. However, this set is a special edition that has never been for sale: it used only to promote the Barbie movie. Not surprisingly, the Barbie doll in this set has a dress made of diamonds. To be more precise, 318 diamonds.

14 Prince William And Kate Middleton Barbies

Talking about dream houses and pink magic, we can’t escape from the charming influence Prince William and Kate Middleton have. A real fairytale! Although their romance has had their ups and downs, they managed to stay together and create more love. As we know, their third child, the new Prince, was born this year. The British royal family is expanding, so is the number of their fans. No surprise this beautiful Barbie set with Prince William and Kate Middleton will be a present that many celeb kids would love.

Is the Queen a fan of it, though? According to Express.co.uk, the Queen is still surprised by the differences the two families have. An insider revealed,

"When the Queen visited the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Anmer Hall for the first time, she couldn’t get her head around the fact the kitchen is the main base for them.

For the Queen, she can't stand that because she is used to having a set room for that sort of thing… In her mind, that is where all the kitchen staff work." Traditions are changing, and the world is becoming more and more liberal. Perhaps a separate Barbie house is needed for the young family.

Will there be a set with Harry and Meghan?

13 J.K. Rowling Barbie Doll

Although the J.K. Rowling Barbie doll doesn’t have pink diamonds or shiny hair, this is a doll that many kids would love to have. In the end, this doll can help kids explore the magical world of printed books. In fact, J.K.Rowling said in an interview, "I lived for books… I was your basic common-or-garden bookworm, complete with freckles and National Health spectacles." Did you know that only at eleven she wrote a novel about seven cursed diamonds?

It’s not a secret that J.K. Rowling got the idea for Harry Potter while waiting on a train from Manchester to London in 1990. She began planning her books, and in 1997 Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone quickly became a bestseller.

Not surprisingly, this doll also has the potential to break records. Girls should follow intelligent and ambitious women, not only pink and rich Hollywood stars.

In the end, Barbie dolls have inspired generations, men and women, and fashion designers. The most important thing is that Barbies bring memories and emotions. So, next time you take your Barbie doll out of the attic, think twice. Maybe it's worth a fortune! Remember, though, that money can’t buy childhood happiness and dreams.

12 The Original Barbie (1959): $27,450

The first-ever Barbie doll was released in 1959. She wears blue eye-shadow and a bathing suit... how cool is that?! This is a rare doll whose estimated worth is $8,000. However, this doll was sold at auction for $27,450. Note that back then, this Barbie could be found for $3.

Now, we take Barbie dolls for granted but years ago buying a Barbie doll was a luxury. Barbie was first introduced by Mattel. Ruth and Elliot Handler started in 1945 in a garage workshop. Barbie was named after their daughter who was a fan of paper dolls and paper outfits. Although the original Barbie doll was not as attractive as the dolls we have today, it went ahead of many other competitors and their dolls. Experts say that to check if the doll is original or not, one should look for holes at the bottom of her feet.

Dolls, in general, help kids - boys and girls - develop their creativity and imagination. Perhaps dolls today have more accessories and outfits, but there's no doubt that any collector would love to have an original Barbie doll. Even at this cost! In the end, Barbie dolls have inspired children, industries, and adults for decades. Would you buy this one for Christmas?

11 Lorraine Schwartz Barbie: $7,500

Are diamonds a girl’s best friend? What about Barbie dolls? Well, jewelry-maker Lorraine Schwartz managed to combine both and create a Barbie doll loved by rich kids and passionate collectors. And even if you don’t like Barbie dolls, let’s admit that this one looks classy and stunning. Look at her signature B pendant. Her version of Barbie comes with real diamonds. Imagine buying it for your toddler who’ll probably destroy her hair and dress in hours? Maybe some parents wouldn’t mind spending $7,500 on a doll.

Lorraine Schwartz, who started out as a diamond dealer, has become one of the most loved jewelry designers in the world. Everyone in Hollywood knows her name;

stars like Beyonce, Barbara Streisand, and Angelina Jolie, and of course, TV celebs like the Kardashians consider her for a close friend.

Her inspiration was her mother. She admits, "There’s only one woman of style — my mom. My mom was regal, impeccable. I got my taste from her. Every time I get stuck on an idea, I think of her and inspiration comes to me." Unfortunately, her mom died from breast cancer. So, most of the money Lorraine made with this doll went into charities and other organizations that support women in need and their families.

10 Pink Splendor Barbie (1996): $339

This extravagant Barbie doll is kind of rare, and in fact, Pink Splendor Barbie is the most expensive retail Barbie doll ever. Which is good news: common folks like us could easily buy it. However, the bad news is that is was originally released at $900. But cheer up, you can find her on Amazon for only $339.

And although I’m not a big fan of the pink stuff, let’s admit that pink and Barbie dolls go hand in hand. Barbie dolls have a whole set of accessories and outfits. From dresses to golf shorts, Barbie dolls mean a lot. They represent the fashion trends of each era.

What’s more, from a fashion model, Barbie became a story. Her boyfriend Ken was introduced in 1961, and her sister Skipper, in 1964. Then, cars, pets, houses, and other stuff appeared. Her house was more than a house, it was a dream house and not everyone could get one. I remember I had a sweet small dollhouse (with lights and furniture), but Barbie houses were always more appealing. And I remember when I got my first Barbie table set. Now kids have so much but still memories of fading nurseries and broken toys will never leave us.

9 De Beers Barbie Doll: $85,000

Diamonds love Barbie! To celebrate her 40th anniversary in 1999, our favorite Barbie got real diamonds from the giant De Beers. The Barbie doll has a belt that contains 160 diamonds combined with gold. Looking like an oriental princess, which perhaps many boys would like to have, this Barbie doll has a sheer skirt and provocative bikini. Many Hollywood celebs who are clients of De Beers wouldn’t hesitate to buy this Barbie gem for their kids... and something else.

De Beers is one of the leading diamond companies in the world. From exploration to marketing, their products are loved by many celebs.

Here we should mention that this precious Barbie doll is also a reminder of how sexualized toys are today. Although De Beers Barbie is made for collectors, we should admit that Barbie dolls, Monster High dolls, and many other toys are more than provocative. Experts argue that the sexualization of toys is passed onto little girls.

We can see it everywhere around us. Even Halloween costumes are sexualized, and of course, girls are the target of this form of abuse. Since toys and stories influence kids, parents and companies should understand the impact sexualization has. From anorexia to low self-esteem, the consequences for girls can be scary.

8 Stefani Canturi Barbie: $302,500

Barbie dolls come with lots of accessories that give kids the chance to use their imagination and combine outfits, accessories, and make-up. Now, imagine a real diamond by the Australian jeweler Stefano Canturi in your Barbie collection? Stefano Canturi and his pieces are loved by stars like Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, and Oprah Winfrey.

No surprise his Barbie doll is one of the most expensive dolls ever. In fact, in 2010 this Barbie was sold for €271,105. Isn’t that insane?

The good news is that the money went to breast cancer research. The maker of Barbie, Mattel, asked Stefano Canturi to get involved and help them raise money for research and treatment. Six months after their request, his stylish and beautiful Barbie doll appeared. Look at her little black dress and beautiful necklace! Where’s her Ken to take her on a night out?

Breast cancer is a serious problem among women worldwide. Only in the US, regardless of age and background, more than 12% suffer from some form of breast cancer. According to data, more than 266,120 cases of invasive breast cancer and 63,960 cases of non-invasive cancer are expected in 2018. Experts recommend regular checks and careful monitoring.

7 Devi Kroell Barbie Doll: $1,075

Devi Kroell is a well-known designer of handbags and accessories… and Barbie dolls. Her Barbie doll simply looks glamorous. Unfortunately, only one copy of Barbie with high golden boots exists. Sorry, it was sold at an action in 2010.

This doll is an example of the transformation Barbie dolls have gone through: from plastic toys to stylish pieces that only collectors and celebs can afford.

It’s interesting to mention that originally Barbie was created because of the lack of adult-figured toys in the 50’s. So when Ruth and Elliot Handler created the famous Barbie maker Mattel, many dismissed their ideas. So it was Handler who finally created the first Barbie doll themselves, based on a doll from Germany. The first Barbie doll was presented at the American International Toy Fair, and now, March 9, 1959, is considered as Barbie’s birthday.

Since then many collections, such as the Vintage Put-Ons And Pets Kitty Kapers (for $500) and the Barbie, Ken And Midge On Parade Gift Set (for $600) have been created. In the end, Barbie is about family life, friendship, adventures, so accessories are not the only thing that make her special. It’s her story, and of course, our nostalgia.

6 Pink Jubilee Barbie: $800

Barbie has a long history and has gone through many modifications. However, pink and dolls are two things that still go hand in hand. To celebrate Barbie’s 30th anniversary, this Pink Jubilee doll was given to guests of Mattel’s big celebration.

As we know, Mattel is the loved Barbie maker. Thanks to Ruth and Elliot Handler who in 1959 showed Barbie to the world, now kids can enjoy Barbie’s pink magic. This Pink Jubilee doll, in particular, has a nice silk dress - a soft combination of pink and silver, lovely hair, and beautiful earrings.

The good news is that it can be found on eBay… for $800.

Talking about pink magic, there’s another Barbie doll in pink which costs much more than the Pink Jubilee Barbie. The Blonds Pink Diamonds Barbie costs more than $18,000. The reason? Her lovely dress? Her pretty face? Well, no doubt the Blonds Pink Diamonds Barbie doll looks lovely. But most of all, collectors pay for her Barbie-pink diamonds, which were created by the designer duo the Blonds. The talented designing duo of Phillipe and David Blond are loved by many celebs in Hollywood. Their Barbie doll is for sure something many celeb kids would want.

Do kids like diamonds? Maybe!... In the end, diamonds can be used for cutting, drilling, and polishing.

5 Hair Barbie: $160

The 90’s were cool. Funky music, colors, and silky tracksuits. And of course, crazy hair. Since I was a kid and I wasn't allowed to improvise with my hair, I could stay at home (while my older sister was always somewhere partying) and play with my Barbie. My first Barbie with brown hair was just a dream come true, and my pregnant Barbie was more than I could’ve asked for.

Well, this Hair Barbie doll comes with styling gel and hair accessories. Would you let your kid play with her hair, though? This vintage doll costs more than $160 on eBay. Which is quite cheap compared to other masterpieces on our list.

Let’s have a look at two other dolls. Barbie in Midnight Pink from 1965 (more than $10,000) and Barbie in Midnight Red (for more than $18,000). It was in 2006 when two Dutch women offered their private collections of Barbie dolls up for auction. In fact, back then, the Barbie in Midnight Red doll, which was sold for €15,317, was the most expensive Barbie ever sold in an auction. Would you sell such gems full of history, nostalgia, and beauty? Well, for this money, maybe even the most passionate collector would be tempted.

4 Beyonce Barbie

While there are celebs and collectors that can afford special editions - and also spoiled kids that might get an expensive Barbie set for Christmas - there are kids that are more than lucky. They can play with a Barbie doll that resembles their own mother. Did you know that there are celebs that have their own Barbie doll?

Who wouldn’t like a Beyonce doll? Sexy and charming. Most of all, talented. Beyonce is a successful singer, model, and actress who has many Grammy Awards. She also ran a clothing line with her mother. Let’s not forget that she is a happy wife and a sexy mom. Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed baby daughter Blue Ivy Carter in 2012.

Interestingly, they spent $80,000 on a Barbie doll for their daughter’s first birthday.

Diamonds for a baby? Oh well… In 2017, Beyonce gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. In fact, she announced her pregnancy on Instagram and her iconic photo became the most-liked Insta post for 2017. Data shows that there were more than 11 million likes. With so many fans, no doubt her Barbie doll will be sold out soon. In fact, it’s cheap when compared to other dolls – it can be found for about $100.

3 Cher Barbie

Cher is another talented singer and sexy mom who has her own Barbie doll. As we can see, the outfit is also typical for real Cher. Black leather and provocative accessories. Is it really for kids?

It’s not a secret that the aesthetics behind toys, in general, have changed. From perfect dolls to plastic monsters, each generation has toys and activities to remember. Now, more and more hipster parents choose wooden and eco toys.

Back to our Cher Barbie. Provocative or not, we should admit that the doll looks cool. Everyone loves Cher. Cher became famous as part of her singing career with her ex-husband Sonny Bono. Soon after that, she became known as the Goddess of Pop. She is also a wonderful actress with numerous awards.

According to Phill Marder, Cher "has been and remains today one of the Rock Era's most dominant figures… feminine rebellion in the rock world [and] the prototype of the female rock star, setting the standard for appearance, from her early hippie days to her later outlandish outfits, and her attitude - the perfect female punk long before punk even was a rock term." Maybe this doll can inspire little girls to change the world around us.

2 Elvis And Priscilla Presley Barbies

Barbie and Ken are two names that go hand in hand. There’s one man for Barbie and only one woman for Ken. But how do you feel about buying a Barbie set that contains Elvis and Priscilla Presley?

Beautiful and loved by many, Elvis and Priscilla are one of the most iconic couples of all times. They met in Germany, Elvis was 25, and Priscilla was only 14. They married in 1967 - in Las Vegas, of course. However, their marriage didn’t last too long. As Priscilla said in an interview,

"My parents said that I shouldn't date Elvis, that I was too young, which was true. My mother felt that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; and besides, it was not harming me.

Finally, she prevailed upon Dad to consent. But he set up a 12 o'clock curfew." Nevertheless, they got married and their daughter Lisa Marie was born in love.

Many fans believe that the King of Rock 'n' Roll is still alive, and there are many conspiracies about his death. So perhaps many would not hesitate to buy this sweet Elvis and Priscilla set. Who knows? Maybe it goes with some mini versions of his rock records.

1 Marie Antoinette Barbie: Over $1,250

This Barbie doll is based on Marie Antoinette. With a huge blue dress and lovely hair, it's just perfect for a royal game. But maybe only princes and princesses can afford it. The doll costs more than $1,000.

Let's mention that Marie Antoinette was the 15th child of Emperor Francis I and Empress Maria Theresa. She was born in Vienna, Austria. To stop the tension between Austria and France, the Austrian monarchs offered the hand of their little daughter. She was only 14 when she married the future king of France, Louis XVI. Note that it took them seven years to consummate their marriage. After that, Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI had four kids. The world quickly fell in love with the young beauty. Maybe that’s why everyone would love this Barbie doll.

An interesting fact is that there’s no evidence that Marie Antoinette said the famous line "Let them eat cake!" after the rulers were informed that the starving French peasants didn’t have enough bread to eat. True or not, she was living in luxury while the French were fighting to survive. So, she was decapitated during the French revolution. Well, for us, the common folk, it will take some time starving to afford this beautiful doll.
