We all watch with interest when celebrities become pregnant and have children.  It's almost unreal to watch them do something that other human beings do, and we want to see how they are going to parent and how their kids are going to turn out.

Though celebrities often brag about being great, hands-on parents and they tell funny stories about their offspring, we don't always get to hear from the kids.  What is it like to have a famous parent?  What are the downsides, and is it worth it for all the perks?

Many children of celebrities go into the business themselves, becoming actors, singers, or models.  When this occurs, they willingly step into the spotlight, at which point they are inevitably asked about their parents.  Some don't want to talk about being raised by famous parents, but others are more than happy to give their view of the situation.

Children of celebrities share a variety of stories, some startling and some surprisingly ordinary.  Some of these kids are protected from the limelight by their parents while others have had to live under the glare of the paparazzi since birth.  This and other factors can determine how children feel about their celebrity parents.

These fifteen children of celebrities, who also went into the business themselves, tell about the good, the bad, and the ugly, and give a fair view of what the celebrity parent experience is like.  They are candid and good natured about being known as so-and-sos kids.

15 Lily-Rose Depp

Lily-Rose Depp is no stranger to attention from the public.  Her dad is actor and former heartthrob Johnny Depp, and her mom is model and actress Vanessa Paradis.  Depp struck gold receiving genes from these two, and she is now an actress and model as well.

Depp is honest about the limits having famous parents puts on a normal life.  She had to go through adolescence in the public eye, struggling with anorexia and dealing with the split of her famous parents while followed by paparazzi.  When Depp goes somewhere or celebrates milestones of her own, such as birthdays, there are always people around waiting to take pictures or comment.  She's even had her fashion choices critiqued simply because of her connection to her parents.

Still, Depp feels that all she has been through is a small price to pay compared to the advantages that having famous parents can offer.

14 Brooklyn Beckham

Want kids to be level-headed despite growing up with famous parents?  Easy.  Just don't tell them that their parents are famous.  That's what happened to Brooklyn Beckham who claims he had no idea his parents were famous until he was 13 years old.  Until then, they were just mom and dad, and that's apparently how his parents, David and Victoria, liked it.

Beckham is releasing a book of his photographs and sees it as a way to show he has talent that isn't just connected to being his parents' child.  In fact, he found that playing soccer was too much pressure since his dad is known for it.  He felt like he could never make a mistake without being judged, and his passion was in photography anyway.

Beckham also praises his parents for being supportive of his aspirations and for prioritizing family. He says his family spends a ton of time together and are extremely close.

13 Zoe Kravitz

Actress and singer Zoe Kravitz has carved out a career that is all her own, but just looking at her reveals she is the daughter of two famous, beautiful people.  Singer Lenny Kravitz is her father while actress Lisa Bonet is her mother.  Though the two divorced when Zoe was young, they remained cooperative co-parents who brought Zoe up surrounded by love.

Kravitz says her parents' eccentric clothes used to embarrass her when she was a child, but she now claims to borrow them often.  She also reveals that her dad was a strict, old-fashioned dad despite his rock start persona.  Kravitz received an allowance and had a bedtime, something that many wouldn't expect for a child raised by two free-spirited celebrities.

Being so close to celebrity all of her life has made Kravitz suspicious of people's obsession with fame.  She respects her mom's decision to step away from the limelight because Bonet wasn't obsessed with the fame.

12 Dakota Johnson

The star of The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy doesn't beat around the bush when asked what is hard about being the daughter of two famous actors.  The daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith says that visiting film sets and seeing her parents having relations with other people on set, as well as watching a scene where her mother was slapped, were traumatic experiences.

She also admits that her parents have not seen her in her defining role as Anastasia Steele.  The nudity and S&M backdrop of the movie likely don't make it feel very parent-friendly, though Johnson would likely enjoy her parents seeing her hard work since she had to watch them do things on set her whole life.

Despite feeling traumatized by what she saw on set, Johnson still decided to follow in her parents' footsteps.  She describes herself as sensitive and does have problems with the lack of privacy that has peppered her whole life.

11 Scott Eastwood

Besides inheriting his chiseled jaw, Scott Eastwood also inherited his dad's worth ethic and his beliefs in a healthy lifestyle.  Eastwood says his famous father got him into the gym at a young age to teach him to stay healthy, and when not in the gym he was being taken from one movie set to the next.

Eastwood was also told by his dad to do well at whatever he put his mind to, and he chose to take that advice and apply it to acting, his father's chosen trade.

However, Eastwood didn't receive handouts just because his father could have provided them.  Eastwood's first car cost only a thousand dollars, and he was required to buy any follow-up cars with his own money once that one broke down.  His father wanted to raise him to work hard, and from his early work, it looks like he did a good job.

10 Jack Quaid

Parents divorcing is hard for any kid, but it's even more difficult if mom is America's sweetheart and dad is a famous actor who is known as a charmer.  That's the situation Jack Quaid, daughter of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, had to deal with when his parents famously split.

Quaid says that seeing the covers of magazines where his parents' faces were printed side-by-side but had a lightning bolt split separating them was difficult.  Confronted with these images everywhere he went, it was hard not to be affected.  Still, he says his parents were just normal people to him, not the famous characters they portayed on screen.

He appreciates what his parents did for him and that their career choices make them amazing storytellers.  He knows that since he has chosen to be an actor that he will live under the cloud of comparisons to his famous parents, but he's coming to terms with that as he builds his own career.

9 Rumer Willis

Rumer Willis is the daughter of actors Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, and she has made a career as both a singer and actress.  Though she has dealt with cyberbullying and comments about her appearance, she is very well-adjusted and grateful for her parents and all of their guidance.

Willis says her dad's taste in music helped her develop a love for different kinds of sounds, and that her mom's advice to just be herself has helped her deal with the pressures of celebrity.

Though Willis' parents divorced in a very public way when she was a child, she still says they are great parents and that her admiration for them has increased as she has gotten older.  She sees the ordeals they must have had to overcome to parent in public the way that they did.  As a celebrity herself now, she has a better understanding of how hard that must have been.

8 Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie is probably best known for her role alongside Paris Hilton on reality TV, but she is the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie.  She was adopted by him at the age of nine, though she had been under his guardianship since the age of three.

Richie grew up in a world unimaginable to most kids.  Michael Jackson was her godfather, and she called now-deceased singer, Prince, Uncle Prince.  There were always celebrities coming in and out of her house, and she grew used to it.

Richie admits that during her parents' divorce, they gave her anything she wanted as a way to keep her happy.  Since the divorce was public and Lionel Richie's affair was broadcast, they wanted to spoil her any way they could to make up for the mess.  Richie has now stated that she doesn't think that was the best thing for her.

7 Kaia Gerber

One major advantage of having model Cindy Crawford as mom is that she can do eyebrows like no one's business, according to her daughter.  Kaia Gerber definitely benefits from the fact that her mom and her dad, Rande Gerber, are models because she has all of their genes and gets plenty of advice and free gromooming as she moves forward in her own modeling career.

Gerber realized on a trip to Disneyland at the age of eight that her family was special.  Everyone wanted pictures with her supermodel mom instead of the dressed-up princesses that most kids fawn over.  It's likely that this was an intentional decision on her mother's part.  Crawford seemed to split her supermodel life from her family life and was just mom to her kids.  That's why Gerber had no idea of her mother's fame until this point.

She's still a teen attending both high school and runway shows, but Gerber seems to be doing just fine with the guidance of her famous parents.

6 Eva Amurri Martino

Eva Amurri Martino is the daughter of actress Susan Sarandon and director Franco Amurri.  She spent time on sets and at political rallies due to her mom's career and her passion for social justice and political issues.

Amurri Martino describes her upbringing as fun but sort of circus-like, and she is working to give her two children more structure in their lives.  She does appreciate that her mother taught her to be kind to others, and she and her mother have acted in films and television programs together.  They now bond over her children.

Amurri Martino had to deal with major stress when her child was dropped by a Nanny and cracked his skull open.  She had her mom to be supportive, which was good because she experienced some very harsh criticism when she revealed the incident on her blog.  She  and her family have pulled through it.

5 Lily Collins

Having a dad who sings sweet tunes hasn't stopped Lily Collins from having some sour feelings about her father.  Collins wrote in her book Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me that she forgave her father, musician Phil Collins, for the trouble in their relationship.  She has also been open about having an eating disorder and says that most of her issues stem from troubles with her dad.

Collins' parents divorced when she was seven, and though she is not specific, she feels her dad let her down and wasn't available when she needed him.  She says she forgives him but can't excuse all of his behavior.  We know from Phil Collin's own memoir that he had affairs and struggled with alcohol, but Lily Collins doesn't speak to these things specifically.

Collins has moved forward and has a strong career of her own.  She doesn't feel like it's too late for the relationship with her father to be better, but she definitely did not have a fairy tale outcome just because she had a famous father.

4 Chris Pine

Chris Pine saw a realistic view of acting life growing up with his parents.  His dad is Robert Pine of CHIPs fame and his mom is Gwynne Gilford, who was an actress before becoming a psychotherapist.  He grew in Los Angeles, and despite the fact that he went into the same career as his father, he says his father doesn't try to guide him but simply leads by example and lets him live his own life.

Because Pine's dad was a television actor, Pine saw the good and bad of fame up close.  His dad had times where work was plentiful and times where it was not, and he had to take jobs in commercials or doing voice overs during the bad times.

It's because of this that Pine was about to go into acting without any illusions.  He also feels like growing up in LA helped him learn the lay of the land early and gave him an advantage as far as location.

3 Liv Tyler

Liv Tyler was not aware of who her biological father was until she was eight years old.  After attending a concert where she saw her half-sister and her dad Steven Tyler, both of whom look like Tyler, she figured it out on her own.  Her mother, model and singer Bebe Buell, was honest about it after that.

Tyler's upbringing was a bit unconventional, with Steven Tyler putting her in a music video when she was a teen, casting her in the role of sexy vixen.  However, Tyler is fond of her father and says he's a fun but out of the ordinary grandfather to her children.

Tyler does regret that her stepfather, the man who she still loves and says feels like a father to her, doesn't come up in her narrative as often.  Tyler feels that acting in her teens kept her from partying too hard, and even through the ups and downs she doesn't regret the way her life has gone.  She has loving parents to spare and a family of her own.

2 Rashida Jones

True California girl Rashida Jones loved growing up in L.A. with her famous parents, the multi-talented Quincy Jones and actress and model Peggy Lipton.  Her parents split, but she describes a great childhood that included Michael Jackson visiting the house and famous people coming and going all the time.  Despite her cool upbringing, she says she felt like a nerd who discovered computers early and was overweight.

Controversy arose when the late Tupac Shukar made horrible comments about her family, and Jones felt empowered to write him an open letter that was printed publicly.  Shakur apologized and eventually ended up engaged to Jones' sister until his death.

Though Jones' parents divorced, she had them film a scene together for her latest TV show and says they were very well behaved.  Celebrities roamed in and out of Jones' home for her whole childhood, but she seems to be a down-to-earth, well-adjusted star.

1 Kate Hudson

Just because parents have money doesn't mean they want to share it with their kids.  Kate Hudson's famous parents, Goldie Hawn and stepdad Kurt Russell, let her know that when she decided to go into acting, she had to find a way to financially support herself.  They weren't going to give her their hard-earned dough, so she had to sink or swim in the industry.

Hudson looks a lot like her famous mother, but she said her goal was always to stand out on her own.  Her relationship with her biological father is complicated to this day, and she considers Russell the father who has always been there for her.

Hudson feels lucky that her mother didn't expect her to have the same kind of career or to seek the same opportunities that she did.  She was allowed to pursue acting on her own terms, and she has done a great job.
