There are a lot of style faux-pas that we wish had not been documented in photographs. As fashions change, a piece of women's poor choices remain captured forever in the form of horrific pictures. But at least for most of us, only close friends and family can see the disasters that we used to be.

But for celebrities it is different—all of their fashion fails are available for the world to see. And unfortunately, the world cares. (No one would pay attention if someone posted a picture of me wearing socks and jelly sandals. But that same picture of Angelina Jolie and woof—the press would have a field day!)

Wedding dress fashions are surely some of the most memorable, and for some reason these dresses bear the most evidence of fashions of that era. It is easy to spot a gown from the 1980’s; the princess cut and puffy sleeves, coupled with the crimped hair and jheri curls—it is a dead giveaway.

And lucky for us, some our favorite celeb moms have participated in some shocking trends from the past that show us that everyone, famous or not, can be documented in the height of a fad.

15 Victoria Beckham

It is hard to imagine the posh-est of all Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham, ever wearing anything that is not extremely fashionable. And to her credit, her dress was probably at the height of fashion at the time. But in this classic throwback photo from 1999, a wee bit of the 90’s flair is evident.

Victoria’s dress is still gorgeous, even by today’s standards. But you can tell that it is dated. The flair of the skirt in a ball gown fashion was huge 20 years ago, but no so much now. Brides are choosing more fitting, silhouetted dresses that show off their form.

David Beckham’s white suit is pretty timeless but his bleached tips show that he is a man of the 1990’s—and you have gotta love him for it.

14 Nicole Richie

If you ever watched Nicole Richie on the reality tv show “The Simple Life” that she did with Paris Hilton, then you were probably surprised when that wild child decided to settle down and start a family of her own. Nicole has transformed herself into a poised fashionista that little resembles the loud and quirky Nicole of her youth.

In a small ceremony with about 130 people, Nicole tied the knot with punk rocker Joel Madden of “Good Charlotte”. Nicole wore a custom-made dress by Marchesa that was just funky enough to remind us that she has not always been pure posh. It was funky, it was cool, and it a style piece that was so trendy it can never really go out of fashion because it was never really in.

13 Mariah Carey

When diva songstress Mariah Carey married record producer Tommy Mottola in 1993, her wedding was very memorable. The who’s-who of music elites were in attendance, and Mariah herself was decked out in a Vera Wang dress that included a 10-foot veil. (Even Ozzy Osbourne was in attendance—can you imagine walking down the aisle and looking out into the audience only to happen upon Ozzy? Hopefully he left his bat at home.)

The bride’s dress was a puffy as her hair, and she descended from St. Patrick’s cathedral carrying a bouquet the size of a deer. Her 27-foot wedding dress train trailed behind her, gathering the white rose petals that consisted of her pathway.

It was pure 90’s magic.

Though the marriage only lasted four years, this timeless photo will stay in our hearts forever.

12 Gwen Stefani

Singer Gwen Stefani has made a name for herself not only because she has a rocking voice but because of her style. So one can only imagine how she would tie-in her punk-rock princess style into her wedding dress.

In 2002 Stephani married Gavin Rossdale at St. Paul’s Convent Garden in London, decked out in all her punk-glory.

Gwen was wearing her signature red lipstick, which should come as no surprise. Her off-the-shoulder gown was cream that faded to hot pink, in a dress so outrageous only she could pull it off. Even Gwen’s hair made a statement—it was swept up into a funky yet beautiful Mohawk braid that cascaded down her back like a waterfall of white cold bleach.

Gavin was present. He wore black. He was clearly not the star.

11 Kelly Ripa

Actress Kelly Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos have been married for over 20 years. They have three gorgeous children together and it seems (at least from the outside) like they have attained what most of Hollywood cannot—a long-lasting marriage.

In honor of their 20 year wedding anniversary, the couple vacationed in Turks and Caicos and Kelly brought along her gown for a laugh. She put it on and snapped a picture to show to her audience at Live! With Kelly and Michael.

Except nobody is laughing, we are applauding. Because somehow, 20 years later, Kelly looks just as good—if not better than she did in her dress. The simplicity of the gown is timeless and this couple proves that a throwback photo ain’t got nothing on them.

10 Fergie

Fergie, aka Stacy Anne Ferguson, married Josh Duhamel in Malibu in the early days of 2009. Before approximately 300 guests, the two exchanged their vows.

Fergie is known for her style. She will wear anything from cargo pants to a sequined dress. She will rock chains, diamonds, work boots, high heels, and feathers. Her style, though always evolving, is on trend.

I was surprised that Fergie’s dress was so…normal. I would have expected a pop of color or some lace. Instead this leading lady went with a sleek mermaid style that was simple and elegant. You would never know from her photos what year she was married—everything looks to sophisticated. And then she turns around BAM—black flowers are encrusted in a fashion-forward knot along the back of her knees.

9 Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta Jones married her older beau Michael Douglas in the picturesque Plaza Hotel in New York of 2000. Their 25-year age gap has not slowed this couple down.

Catherine wore a gown fitting a queen—it was elegant, long and made a statement. Their photos look like royalty.

In an interview with People regarding the big day Zeta Jones said ,"I just told Michael, 'No crying.' He doesn't even have to have a tear in his eye. He just has this look where I know that he's about to start, and that does me in. I said, 'I don't even want you to look at me until I'm halfway down the aisle. I don't take any of this for granted. When I look at Michael, I run around like a little girl…”

8 Jessica Simpson

Remember that one time that Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey got married? Oh yeah—me too. (I will also never forget that whole chicken of the sea incident.)

In their 2002 nuptials, Nick and Jessica married at a church in Texas, where the bride had grown up. Luckily VH1 televised the whole thing, so we can all look back fondly with nostalgia to a simpler time when two people could marry for love…and perhaps a little bit of publicity.

Jessica’s gown is pretty timeless—you could wear it again today and no one would know it was from the early 2000’s. The most striking thing to me about her wedding photos is her radiance—how blissfully happy she looks. It must be strange to be Jessica now and look back at that day…

7 Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith has always been on the forefront of fashion. She was sporting a short hairdo and jean jacket way before it was cool. She tends to set trends; not follow them. But all of us are subject to some…interesting choices in clothing.

Is that a white velvet wedding gown I spy? Are parts of it see-through? That is a daring combo, girl. I would have said with the ultimate of confidence that this would never be on point again but I am sad to say that somehow velvet is making a comeback.

Back in 1997 Jada was walking down the aisle wearing something deliciously vogue. And somehow, even though I hate to admit it, one cannot fully fault her for her choices because that horrid fabric is back in fashion. Again.

6 Cindy Crawford

Cindy Crawford is one of America’s most famous supermodels. Her wedding to Rande Gerber in 1998 cemented in her fame—one of the most beautiful women in the world strolled down the aisle in a beachy mini dress that was made from lace. She was barefoot. She was radiant.

This throwback photo is faultless. Cindy somehow managed to stumble upon a style so simple yet so elegant, that time stands still around it.

Cindy told PeopleStyle, “It’s funny, Rande is such a reason why I wore a short dress. I didn’t actually walk down an aisle cause we walked each other down to the beach, but for me I wanted my husband to see me and I wanted him to be excited about the bride he was seeing.”

5 Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. were at the height of their careers when they married in 2002, having dated for five years prior. They were one of the hottest couples of their time (think Jen & Brad). The intimate ceremony took place in Mexico, with sixty of their closest friends and family.

Sarah Michelle wore a long, flowing Vera Wang dress that was strapless. Freddie was donned in a white suit that made him look like a friendly 50’s mobster. Collectively, they were perfection.

It is crazy to think that this uber famous couple has managed to stay largely out of the spotlight in recent years—and they have stayed together! They have a beautiful family; a daughter named Charlotte Grace and a son named Rocky James.

4 Meryl Streep

It is rare to know more about a woman’s career than her family life but this is something that the beloved Meryl Streep has achieved. Her career is so encompassing, so noteworthy, that most people are not even aware that Meryl is happily married and has four grown children.

Meryl married artist Don Gummer 1978 in a simple ceremony.

This is a couple that has managed to stay together during the highs and lows of an illustrious career. In her Best Actress speech at the Academy Awards in 2012 Meryl explained, "First I'm going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music, and I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you've given me."

3 Rita Wilson

Rita Wilson has been married to Tom Hanks for close to 30 years! The couple was married on April 30th, 1988. And may I just say-- Rita’s dress is probably my favorite out of this whole collection. Why? Because it was so on point for the times.

Rita’s strapless gown with a mini skirt and a ruffled mid-section is so quintessential of the 1980’s. The term “outdated” has such a negative connotation but in fashion, sometimes that is just a way of saying historical. She wore the trend of the decade and it is amazing.

Even today, this couple oozes real intimacy and happiness. Hanks said in an interview, “I don’t think I’ll ever be lonely any more... that’s how I felt when I met my wife.”

2 Kyra Sedwick

Actress Kyra Sedwick and her actor beau Kevin Bacon, have been married for 29 years (or 445 in Hollywood years). Their nuptials took place in September of 1988 when all of the rage of 80’s fashion was still in swing.

Kyra’s dress is surprisingly simple for the era; it was lace with a high collar neckline. Bacon’s suit looks like it was pulled from the back of his father’s closet, but he still looks dapper somehow. The couple, though young and fresh faced, looks surprisingly normal and down to earth. Dare I say, happy?

Despite the years this couple has proved they can make it. But how do they succeed where others fail? Bacon told Redbook Magazine, “Whatever you do, don’t listen to celebrities on advice on how to stay married. That’s my secret.”

1 Faith Hill

Singers Faith Hill and Tim McGraw create a lot of jealousy among country music fans—they are both gorgeous, famous, and married. To each other.

Hill and McGraw married in 1996 and managed to keep their wedding a secret. They told close friends and family that they were attending a soft ball game. Though we are used to this kind of secrecy today, back then it was basically unheard of.

Faith walked down the aisle in her 90’s pearls and a spaghetti strap dress. Her white gloves are perhaps the only indication accessory that dates her attire, though others may argue that they are making a comeback. (NO. Unless you are marrying a Prince like Megan Markle, NO GLOVES FOR YOU.)

Though it is not evident from photos, she was three months pregnant at the time.
